Quick front brake question

How do the damn pad pins come out (S4 4-piston calipers). Mine are stuck in very badly. Ive tried a punch, but it didnt work. Do you even need to take them out to change the pads? thanks in advance.

Pins gotta come out. Remember to pull that little wire clip that holds them on, but after that, they should pop out. However, I have seen them get bent, in which case, it would be trickier

Once the pins are out, pull the pads right out, no problem.

These calipers are not in very good condition. I am going to rebuild them, It almost looks like they have been sitting in a junkyard for a long time. I am doing a 5-bolt conversion. I have tried everything short of a 50lbs sledge hammer. Any ideas

If you are trashing the calipers to do the 5 lug/brake change over grind them off.

If you can afford it, newly rebuilt calipers are only 70/ea, depending on the autoparts store.. Might be easier that way.

my FC was sitting for a long time, all the calipers had big time problems. the left front caliper, one piston was working, the other 3 were seized up. I'd reccomend replacing them, because wouldnt you rather STOP than Go? Make friends with an auto parts guy, and get his discount. i work at one, I can get you front calipers for around $46 each, with a $45 core. so e-mail me at mazdaspeed82@cs.com and maybe we can work something out. i'm in Missouri, and night manager at O'Reilly auto parts.
