quick engine harness question

doing a auto to 5-speed swap and was wondering if there is any differences in the engine harness. Did a search and came up with about a 1000 post on tii swaps. Both cars are s4.

There shouldn't be. To my knowledge the only difference is that there is an extra auto tranny harness that connects to the drivers side harness just after it enters the engine bay. This is on an s5, though, so I'm not sure about the extra harness on an s4.

IF your talking about the EM harness that has the wiring to the fuel injectors etc, then there are some MINOR changes to be made.

What you REALLY need to do, is go to the FSM and the FUEL section and the pages called CONTROL UNIT. There it lists what each wire on the ECU does and those pins that relate to the automatic vs the manual are noted on those pages.

Keep in mind, there is no Automatic ECU nor any Manual ECU. They are both the same. The automatic was controlled by the ECAT. You'll want to disconnect that ECAT at the very least.

The pins that have a special relationship to the autmatic are: 1G neutral switch......1i 5th gear switch......1L clutch switch........2K split air solenoid.......3D inhibitor switch. That said, the engine should run and idle fine without doing anything to them (I'd address it though).

Those are just the EM harness to the ECU. NOT things like addressing the switches on the clutch pedal and the transmission which are on the Front harness but have to be addressed at some point during the swap, if for no other reason than to get the starting circuit straightened out.

I've never owned a automatic RX and have NEVER and will never own one and have never participated in a swap nor plan to.

The CONTROL UNIT pages of the FSM and the WIRING DIGRAMS in the FSM are your best friends, although that link to *how to swap a auto* seems pretty darn good.

Anyway, have fun doing it. It should be fun.
