The clutch is pushed back up by hydraulic pressure against the clutch master cylinder. The pressure comes from the pressure plate pushing against the slave cylinder.
If there's air in the line, the pressure will not get to the master cylinder, and the clutch pedal will not rise.
Bleed the system. If it still has problems, then come back. It's probably the master or slave cylinder.
There's a bleeder screw on the clutch slave cylinder that looks like the one on the brakes. The systems are totally separate.

agreed as above... you have air in your clutch hydraulics... bleed the system... if you have a visible hydraulic fluid leak, it's easy to find your problem... however, if bleeding doesn't help and you can't find a leak anywhere... your clutch master or slave cylinder has an internal leak and needs to be either rebuilt or replaced... if you replace the clutch line, try a braided stainless one... hope this helps.

It doens't need to be running. It's just hydraulics. Look on the drivers side of the bellhousing, right by the firewall. There should be a line from the clutch fluid to there that you can find it with. The slave cylinder will be held on with two bolts and a nipple will be right in between them. Bleed it just like you would brakes.
I'm gonna guess you forgot to bolt the slave cylinder back on? I rarely bleed a clutch when I replace a stock unit with a stock unit. If you remove the slave cylinder without pulling a cluthc line you shouldn't have to bleed anything. Same with brakes, although brakes are a bit more sensitive. Think of it this way, if you don't remove a hose, or open a bleeder. You can't have air in the lines, and if you do you have a bigger problem.
