quetsion about the thermastat

can the car run without problems if you take the thermastat out and leave it out

the reason for asking is because the rx is running hot and it has seems to have started doing so when i put the new therm. in and i wanted to see if i could run it without to see if it was or is there a clog somewhere ealse

Did you put a MAzda thermostat it? OR a junk-*** Stant one?

Also, are you sure it is installed correctly?

If you are unsure of the thermostat itself, you can test it. Just heat up some water and see if the stat opens in it.

Betcha he installed a Stant or some other aftermarket thermostat.

Do not remove the thermostat, the water pump needs the flow resistance to properlly cool.

Get a Mazda OEM thermostat. It is the only thing that works correctly.

If you have to, you can pull out the thermostat and "core" it by cutting the center out of it and leaving just the metal rim. I don't reccomend this as a super smart thing to do, but it is a good temporary fix until you install an OEM thermostat. Whatever you do, DO NOT LET THE CAR OVERHEAT. Rotaries' coolant seals don't take overheating well at all.

get a OEM thermostat, also you could have gotten air trapped in your system, it's not that likely when just changing out the thermostat from what i've seen. But hey, anything is possible with these cars, check out the archive look at the differences between the OEM thermostat and the other manufacturers (stant).
