Question Questions used Rx for sale

I was looking at a used 1988 Rx7 that is in excellent shape both inside and out, with the exception of a tear in the drivers seat. It has 174K miles on it , but on a cold start it fires right up and idles fine. The only problem is that it blows alot of white smoke out of the exhaust. The owner told me he has synthetic oil in it currently, which I know shouldn't be in their. I told him to change the oil and call me after it has been driven a couple of days. My question is would synthetic oil cause that much smoke or is the engine shot? Any answers would help. Thanks,

DocZ

TOOOOO many miles. It's gonna need a rebuild on the motor. Offer 800-1000.

yeah if it's not a rarer rx-7 like the Turbo II, GTU-S, or convertible AND he doesn't have a rebuilt engine in it then keep looking.

Re: Price

The seller is in Atlanta, GA and he is asking $1700 for it which is way over priced. I have already found another car, but if you want the dealers phone number just let me know.

well mine was also started had smoke shooting out the exhaust, and then my mechanic said that the APEX seals went out, is that true?

also off the topic, my mechanic told me that i couldn't put a TII motor in a GXL, is that possible????

Yeah, most likely you have a bad seal if it smokes on every start up. Only way to tell which seal(s) is bad is by doing a compression check.

You can put just about any motor you want in your rx7. I'm no expert on the subject, but the swap between a TII and GXL wouldn't be a perfect match but of course it's possible.

No, you suffer from a case that alot of owners do "muchostupidous mechanicus".

If your smoking from the exhaust, it really depends on the color smoke. Sooo, your either running hella rich, have a bad oil seal, or have a coolant leak.

You "could" put the motor in, but there's more involved than just swappin motors. Time to start working on your cars, or find a competent mechanic.

My car has 160K, I wouldnt sell it for less than 4K. It makes more hp and runs better than most cars with a lot less miles

That's the problem.. I want to sell my NA, But I don't think I could get more than 2000 for it!

I just rebuilt the engine with ALLLLLLL new seals... all new gaskets.. low mileage rotor housings... And all parts measured within spec... Runs great... Pulls strong quite strong..

I've spent a Crapload rebuilding it.. Took me a lot of tries to get it right (don't ask) ..
the car is worth well more than 2k to me.. But I want a turbo hehe..

Yea, the N/A makes a great daily driver while you work on the TII project car.
