Questions regarding Spacers and Brakes

I m thinking about putting some spacers on my car, everything on my car is stock 86 fc, with stock rims and everything, just want all wheels to get to the edge of the finder, how big of a spacer should I get? oh and how can i tell which brake caliper I have? I have 5 lugs so 4 piston?

If you have a GXl youll have them, if your calipers are bigger then your rear then you have 4 piston calipers. I was thinkin of putting spacers on my car, I was gonna go with 1 1/2 " in the rear and 1" in the front but I havent got around to doing it yet.

You'll need longe wheel studs in the rear to do this with stock tires/rims since the spacer will be pretty monstrous ( > 1.5") The front you may be able to get away with the stock studs. BTW.....to change the rear studs will require changing the rear bearings since the flanges must be pressed from them to change the studs..........in english - thats a ******* huge job to make up for wheels that don't fit the car.

The other option is a custom spacer that utilizes its own wheel studs. Basically, bolt the spacer to the existing wheel studs which will allow the wheel nuts to recess in the spacer, and then new studs portrude off the spacer into the wheel.

As far as which brakes you have........take off your wheels and look. The four piston aluminum caliper pretty much explains itself.

Also in the future, providing ANY information about what car we're talking about generally helps anybody trying to answer a question

thanks for the help guys, I think I have the sports model, so I guess I don't have the 4 piston brake then...

I was thinking about a spacer like this :

looks like plug and play to me.....but maybe not that simple?

your going to pay $80+ for .6 inch spacer.... um sounds like a waste of money for appearance. and that’s only for two.

Thanks for point that out, i wasn't planning on spending that much money on spacers anyways, it's not for the appearence, I autocross my car, so I was just after some better handling, you know lower, wider....guess there s no cheap way then...

your better off buying some wheels with a different offset to get what you want.
