Questions from a possible rx7 owner

Hey guys, im going tomorrow to look at an rx7, and i have a cpl questions.. what kind of reliability can i expect from these cars? i need a car to drive everyday that i wont need to really worry about breaking down... i know MPG is around 15-16 which is great for me coming from a 72 chevelle with fuel lines the size of a garden hose... i am also into performance.... so im going to have about 1100 left over if i buy the rx7... im looking at an 88 rxt TII... My ideas for mods were going to be corbeau seats, 4 point harnesses, 3" downpipe, Crane hi-6 to start with... anyone have any advice? Thanks for helping out a newbie!

TII are less reliable than N/A because of the effects of boost on an engine. Don't dog her, and she sholud be fine. First, get the compression tested and buy a Hayne's manual. These cars are "fickle". One day they run fine, the next, poor idle, no boost, lots of fun, but easily remideid problems. If you can't get the compression tested, pull the spark plugs, and turn the key. You should hear a very loud "pst-pst-pst" sound. It sounds like a train rolling across the tracks. If the "pst" noise is inaudible, or irregular, walk away. Bad compression is the bain of these beasts. Other than that, before doinf too much along the lines of modding her, do the essentials, cahnge the oil, buy new plungs and wires. Make sure all is well! Good luck!
