Questions

Can a coil misfire or half work. Or does the spark plugs do that. Can a missing trailing and leading plug on the same rotor make a the engine run rich and make it idle rough. I am just try to figure out a problem.

I have had one coil die on one side only. I'd definately say that it would idle rought and run rich if one rotor didn't get spark. All that fuel would still be injected and just tossed into the exhaust.

Yes most trailing coils do that. Atleat our old ones. Thats what makes the trademark put put sound every now and then while the car idles.

You will find instructions on testing your coils in the FSM... Do you have a copy, or have you downloaded the scanned version?
