Questions about water pump?

this is for 91 NA..
How do you know you need a new water pump?
and can you put used water pump instead of a new one??

I have a coolant leak in my car .. comes from the fan pully ....
do you guys think i should change the water pump .. or it's ok to just change the gaskets and make a good seal ???

Thanks

If the coolant is coming from the weephole on the underside of the pump (sounds like it) then yes you need a new or rebuilt one.

when i run the car... the coolant splashes everywhere that's why i can not look down to see if it's leaking from the weep hole or not....

is there any way i run the car without the fan running ?? coz i think the fan is the one that splashes the coolant while it's leaking?
thanks

Take the fan belt off and run the engine. It won't take long to see where the water's coming from.

As long as it's in good condition it should be fine. Make sure it spins freely and has no shaft play. Of course you won't know if the seals are okay until it's running...
