The GTU model was essentially the turbo model without the turbo. It had no power equipment(lucky you since its lighter that way). And for us to determine if it was a TII core we would appreciate pics.

you can show whoever you want, the GTU never came with a turbo and never was an option, if it has a turbo gauge cluster then either the front fenders were replaced with GTU ones and the engine/hood were replaced or the instrument cluster was replaced with a turbo one(more than likely the cluster was replaced to imply less mileage and maybe to increase the sale value?), in any case the previous owner either didnt know what he has/had or lied to you - more than likely a combination of both.

maybe it came with a turbo because the previous owner before him put a TII engine in there, and most likely he blew the engine and put a 6 port engine again. hey it could happen.

not likely but possible. like i said the most likely case is the thing has a million miles on it and he came across a low mileage turbo cluster to give the impression of lower than actual mileage or he put it in pre-emptively for a turbo swap which never happened.

Does it have a intercooler that says TURBO II on the top of the motor?
Does it have a hoodscoop?

If not than its probably not a turbo swap and its just a regular gtu. Either he was bullshiting you or it had something ghetto done to it at one point. Unless you look under the hood and see all kinds of custom looking stuff to support a turbo.

If you have a Gxl then it should look pretty different under the hood.

Is the boost gauge aftermarket? Whats the location of this supposed boost gauge?

the black one is my dayle driver (soon to be my sisters car) and the metalic blue one is my new one!! it was suppose to be a turbo II motor without the turbo, manifold, intercooler, and hood scop . joshy, i don't know if you know of him? but he is getting me a turbo and manifold that came off a fd. he says it's going to fite.
