Question question on start up

ok..i know you people are getting tired of me but man...its because of ya'll that my car starts...so here it is:

my car (1987 n/a rx7) starts then dies off...unless i press the accelerator and keep it pressed so that the rpms reach somewhere between 2.5-3k rpms...after like 2-5 minutes of this continues pedal pressing i can let it go and it will idle roughly around 1.7-2k on its own..and by the way it does this every single time i start the car...anyone have any ideas on what could be happening with the car?

have you checked your compression?? I would do that and then start checking all of the small stuff, like TPS, thermowax, plugs, wires, etc. etc. get a haynes manual if you don't already have one, it does a decent job of describing each process.

A vacuum leak would account for the shitty running but would it be responsible for the high idle? I'm don't have much experience with vac leaks and their effects but I'd guess that the answer is No to that one...

Yeah, a vacuum leak could potentially cause a high idle I believe. Right now I'm working on a similar problem with my idle, so I should know for certain in a while. If I find out anything I'll let you know.
