question for ppl with cone filters

i have some christmas money to spend, and i want to get a cone filter setup for my car. this is the filter i am looking to buy:

its a K&N inverted filter.
there is 2 different sizes, 2-3/4"FLG, 5-7/8"B, 5-1/4"T, 5"H, and 3"FLG, 6"B, 5-1/4"T, 5"H. what is the best size?

and can you post pics of your setup so i can see how you fabbed brackets, where you positioned them etc.?
thanks!

Just buy a filter and an adapter from eBay, there is usually a combo filter and adapter thing for sale, like 27 bucks shipped. Take the airbox out, then just bolt up to the mass air flow sensor

no thanks, those filters are ****, and the afm adapters dont have a smooth transition from round to square.

another question, what size crankcase vent filter did you use?

RR-3003 << K&N part number. That is the best bang for my buck I could find. Its a great size and will allow maximum flow without spending a mint. If you want a GOOD adapter unlike the POS's from ebay PM hIGGI on this board and go to his shop online and get his replica or the HKS AFM adapter if you have an S4 otherwise get the HKS one.

Santiago

PS- although not pictured its the filter I use for my CAI's.

I always take the front airbox bracket by the radiator, reform it to a 90* angle, and bolt it to the AFM. Then, take one of the old airbox bolts and bolt the new AFM braket to the rear airbox bracket. It works.

i took the ghetto route. autozone $20 special straped right on to the afm with zip ties holding the afm to the nut hole on the rear most airbox braket (left in place) it works surprisingly well the filter doesnt even get that hot after extended driving but im still gonna make a cold air box out of that alluminized buble wrap when i can find some time.

that is the same one i posted, is that same part number a good size to fit onto the afm, cause i know your CAIs are attached to pvc or something.
also which one of these buggers do i need?

If you have an S5 AFM you migh have a little problem but I am not 100% sure. The cone filter is for a 3" inlet. Our pipe is 3" so that is perfect. The S5 AFM is smaller than 3" much smaller But most of the AFM adapters are 3" or 3.15" from what I have seen so you should be ok.

BTW- my CAI is all quality no PVC

I'm not sure if you have a TII or a N/A but here is my intake setup with a HKS air flow meter adapter plate with the universal inverted K&N filter, works great.

Spectra chrome those ebay filters will do the same in your NA as any K&N setup. The difference is that the k&N uses oil to trap the dirt and the Pepboys/ebay ones you just throw away. Save your money and put it somewhere in the exhaust area if you want to feel some type of difference.

Be careful with extremely tilted airflow meters - there's a good chance this will induce hesitations.
