Question from the new guy

Hi everyone, I just bought an 87' rx-7, i'm pretty excited about it. the front end needs a lot of work (the car rear ended a pickup with a big tow ball). I have to definately replace the radiator, and all the front. My real question is about the engine. It has 100,480 miles on it, the guy i bought it from is pretty sure it's had one rebuild... I'm considering doing it myself (interesting learning experience), and I've read about apex seals being the main replacement part. What exactly is an apex seal and where does it go? I've looked around on the net and couldn't find anything in particular. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
--Ryan

The apex seal is like a piston ring on a piston engine. It's what seals the combustion chamber. They are located on the "corners" of the rotor.

Heh. For the first week I had my car, I called it a "turbine" engine. I have come a long way. I say if you have the time and tools, go for the rebuild yourself!! I can't wait to do my first one!! Have fun, and keep those rotors spinning!!

Time for you to order the Engine rebuild video and start learning! I really didn't enjoy rebuilding my engine, maybe that's because the guy I bought it from said it ran great and didn't have any problems (short of stuck side seals, he was almost right!) Anyway, a couple hundred dollars later I'm back on the road, with the knowledge that when I pop it again, I can fix it myself
