Question for all the cooling system gurus

Ok I was driving to the junk yard (a sign right there) and my engine coolant alarm goes off and im like wtf and then i glance at my coolant temp and its red lining and so I got off the freeway and stopped at the gas station. I stop and pop the hood and steam is venting out from the hood...I pop the hood and the coolant is boiling in the reservior and spitting out of the vent in the reservior...Im freaking out I let the coolant stop boiling and look in the engine bay and notice my smog pump belt is off and my alternator belt has completely broke in half....anyways I got lucky because autozone was on the adjacent corner....get a new belt and fluid...shimmy the smog belt back on and drive back home with the alternator belt off....now the question...i overtemped the engine and drove 4 minutes after i noticed the overtemp gauge....the engine starts and maintains a cool temp now but what should i watch out for and or replace

I think you should buy a lotto ticket, cause your on a lucky streak...
Probably no damage, but next time you see the pointer in the red, kill the engine, don't drive it another 4 min.

well fill up the radiator and start up the car, if you see bubbles comming out of the radiator than your in trouble.... but if not just put a notch on the wall on the lucky side, i know i have about 5 of those notches on my wall, and thak god they have all been on the lucky side..
i think my worst over heat is when one of my buddies switched off my electric fan, and i didnt know, i drove for about 10 to 15 mins, and looked out and saw my temp gauge, i flipped on the fan instantally, and pulled over. my upper radiator hose was in a vaccum, so i massauged it and it started to pull the coolant back into the radiator, went oiver to a buddies house toped off the coolant, and no bubbles in the coolant, lucky day that time..

well the car runs ok so far with no bubbles but the stupid coolant alarm still sounds and I have bleed and dont eveything possible so I think I will check the sensor...I still cant stop picturing the fluid boiling in my reservior, Im surprised the reservior didnt melt
