Question Question about exhaust loudness...collected system.

I'm wondering how loud do you think (if you have a setup like it please be the first to step right up ) a collected exhaust system would be if I had the dual exhaust header extend into 2" piping all the way back to the rear and then collect and go into the y-pipe (remember I HAVE to have the dual mufflers...it's just not right w/out them ) then to the 2 mufflers. If you think that'll be too loud what about having them collect then go into a 3rd muffler or presilencer? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm still trying to figure out what you mean with the collected system you are talking about . You basically want to run a road race header(dual outlet) then straight-pipes to collector to y-pipe to mufflers? If this is the case, it'll be loud. I just put on the RB streetable header, with presilencer to the y-pipe and HKS mufflers and it's awfully loud that way. I can't imagine taking out 1/3 of the sound deadening.

uncollected systems (dual) are usually louder than colected systems. And are you talking about collecting it into a 2 inch pipe, or are you saying run a 2 inch pipe to the collector.

And I have found a cool muffler that I would use if I ever built another exhaust for my NA. It is made by spintech, and it is called a sportsman XL, it has dual inlet and dual outlet, so it would be collected (unless it has two separate chambers). And it is supposed to be one of the quitest mufflers that they make, and will stand up to the rotary.

I mean that I want to basically run 2" piping from the motor (dual piping) all the way back to the collector (whatever size I figured...proly 2.5"), and have that go to a y-pipe. I'm just curious to see how loud this might be (it's not neccessarily what I'm gonna run I'm just curious in case I do run this setup). I'm really looking to see how it would sound with that extra muffler in there, but I wanna know how it'll sound w/out it also. Thanks for the replies.

WHat mufflers do you want to run? That will determine how FUGGING LOUD it will be.

I'm just gonna run the ones that I have on there now (rx7.com). Not sure about the 3rd muffler (if I use that). I'm just curious and fishing to see if anyone already has that setup...and the general idea on it.

OK so you just going to put an X pipe in your exhaust omewere. I just want to tell you that you don't have a V8.

He want that tunned exhaust **** I THINK.

It is not really an X pipe it is running it uncollected close to the end and then collecting it but since he want 2 mufflers back there he needs a Y pipe.

I have tried running my NA with no Cat or presilencer.
It was way too loud (a ticket wanting to happen).
Last year I ran a header, collected to a 3" silencer, split to 2" tail pipes & muflers.
It was a little loud, gave great power, but the cheap silencer cracked it's welds after 6 months.
I am now running full dual - 2" all the way.
Pics & sound bite are in my sig below.

It sounds like that is what he is going to put on.

And rx-7guy, you just described an X pipe. And X pipe collects into 1, and then splits back into 2. Or at least I thought it did. Some one tell me if I am wrong.

Yep thats pretty much what an x-pipe is. But, there are 2 different kinds of x-pipe. The standard one is just merely 2 pipes collecting into one and then immediately splitting back apart. Just picture the letter X and pretend those are the pipes. The second kind of x-pipe is the tangentially siamesed x-pipe. These are basically two pipes that converge but then turn away from each other. Its kind of like having 2 pipes next to each other having their walls touch but there is a hole through it that... aw hell never mind go study the x-pipes on this page to see what I mean:

http://www.drgas.com/hooters-cat.html

These x-pipes are worth a bit of study on a rotary. Some of the gasses get mixed and some don't. I wonder if this would be a compromise between the true dual setup and a collected one? Hmm....

LOL I know what you mean but from a useful standpoint not all of the gasses from one side make it to the other side and interact with the other rotor. A true collected system fully mixes these pulses. A true dual does not. This does somewhat which is why I wonder. Who knows maybe it won't do crap right. But what if...?
