question about driveshaft removal

alright, so i snapped my driveshaft about a week ago. i've removed all the bolts connecting the shaft to the diff, but the bastard won't budge. i've sprayed it with PB loosening solution and no dice. i've done this before and don't remember having this much difficulty. anyone got any tips? thanks,
Brian

Tap it with a hammer on each side gently, then try to get something under it (such as a thin chisel, etc to free it.

i would beat the absolute snot out of it but i don't want to ruin my diff also, that would simply blow. hopefully it won't get too stuck together in this cold. i soaked it with more nut loosener, so it better be ready for that rubber mallet. thanks guys. thanks alot.

Do you have a breaker bar? I am in the same process right now, except my driveshaft, went flying up and broke the shift linkage, and the output shaft is done for as well. I already took everyhting off, and the breaker bar works like a charm!!

You need to hit it from the side with a hammer to break the corrosion. Don't worry too much about the diff, the bearings are sturdy. But don't abuse it either. I use a small 2 LB hammer for this, and it normally breaks free after the first hit.

Yep,. small 3 lb copper hammer gets the job done. Like Aaron said, dont worry to much about the pinion flange, it wil be fine (barring you hitting it full force multiple times maybe...)

If you dont mind me asking....how the hell did you snap the driveshaft?

I am curious too about the snap...

I once saw someone loosen the driveshaft (not an RX-7)through interesting tactics... took out all of the bolts, set the e-brake, started the car, and dropped the clutch while applying the brakes. Thank goodness he had a driveshaft loop.
You gotta love garage-beer mechanics.
