a question for the 10th A.E. gurus
it seems like i've wanted this car forever. i've lusted over the pictures i have of it and i've even owned a TII. i've had 14 RX-7's over the years and i still am not satisfied. i found my 10th A.E. she's rough but the price is right and the car only has 96K. i'm picking her up within the next week or so depending on my work schedeule. the interior had parts painted, the audio system is a nightmare etc. well, my question is, are the interior colors for the 10th A.E. specific to the anniversary car? my turbo II had a light grey interior and this car seems to have a darker grey, almost a black color for the plastic parts. i am going to restore this car to as showroom new as i can within my budget and i just want to know what im getting myself into trying to find replacement parts for the interior parts that have been painted. i.e. center consile, radio surround, shift boot surround, glove box door, ash tray. any help would be most appreciated! thanks in advance!

thats a hell of an answer! thank you! i'm glad the color isnt specific to the 10th A.E. it'll make parts a heck of a lot eaiser to find. although i wouldnt guess that black was all too common.
The color isn't specific to the 10AE but certain plastic bits are. Seatbelts (black manual), upper and lower plastics that conceal the seatbelts, A-pillars are all specific to that car (I believe.) There were no other black manual seatbelts and the same goes for the corresponding plastics used to hide the belt system. If those are all fine, then you are in good shape. The 10AE did have a specific shift ****/boot combo that is a 1 piece design. Someone has one for sale in the for sale section if you need that. Radio surround, shift surround, ashtray, and glove box door aren't specific though they do have (mostly) cosmetic differences in the S5 models (which is where you will end up getting most of your black parts from).

here is the interior as it sits(in shambles):
once i take posession of the car, the interior(and the rest of the car) will be as perfect and original as i can make it.

Yea the AE is the only S4 to have black interior, and thus the only US black interior model to sport manual seatbelts... The A-pillars may be hard to find... Here's a little hint though... Many Canadian S5's came with manual belts, and had black interior...
Other than that, the shift ****, and steering wheel should be the only things you have a problem finding... Most parts are interchangable with S5 black interior parts... Another think to check for, is whether it still has all the factory bronze tinted glass, because that was a feature unique to the 10AE...

yeah but once its all done i'll know so much more about the car and the sense of accomplishment will be enormus, especially if the engine turns out to be bad. it wouldnt be the first 7 i've rebuilt and it wont be the last.
IMO anything under the hood is fair game. But the exterior and interior of the car should not be messed with. I'm restoring mine completely and the only things i am adding cosmetically are rims (i have to put wider tires for the power i will be putting down) and maybe a lip and CF side splitters.

Exterior wise mine will be stock other than a 5one5 lip, CF TII hood, smoked tails/sidemarkers/turn signals, and a factory "Sport" aero kit painted to match... Oh and the staggered Work mesh...

i'm leaving the exterior all stock. no aftermarket wheels or skirts or hoods or anyting like that. i dont want to ruin the lines of the car. i absolutely love the stock appearance! thats just my opinion though. if the engine turns out to be bad(battery was dead when i looked at the car but owner said it was runing rough) i'm going to order a rebuilt streetport and get a full RB turbo back exhaust. maybe an upgraded turbo...maybe. depending on the condition of the current turbo. i'll replace what i can with the engine out. that'll save time and money later on. the interior will be a big challenge. the whole car is worth my time and money. as soon as i have time off of work(hopefully next week) i'm going to grab the dually and the aluminum trailor and get this treasure to my garage.
im only slightly modding my 10AE. I want to keep a somewhat reliability factor, with mine having 64k original miles and im the 2nd owner.
my problem is that I have a cracked front glass, and thus far haven't been able to find a replacement.
also my leather TII seats are toast, i at least want to reupholster my pass seat, im happy with a race seat for the driver
also my momo shift **** and shifter altogether were in bad shape and had play in it, so I replaced it with a miata short shifter i got for free.
but overall I've had to replace a couple things, but I love mine and was debating on stock or modding it.
I decided to mod, but keep all the stock stuff in case I want to change back, or HAVE TO sell. I wont sell unless I absolutely HAVE to

i stoped careing a while ago. when i bought the car all the 10th AE badges were gone and the car was already making 250whp, the paint was gone. so i repainted white, did s5 body parts, and got another 100whp out of the engine.
I'm in agreement with everyone. I'm buying a moderately built 13BT to drop inbetween my fenders this winter, and painting back to the original crystal white.
The only thing i'm molesting on the interior is the seating. My driver seat was destroyed, so i threw in a set of all black cloth racing seats.
And, yes i know they're the heaviest rims, i'm sticking with the white rims. I'm going to buy brand new replica's... Mine are a bit beat with curbrash, so either repair and re-coat... or buying new.
But i'm keeping the un-molested 10AE.
