quacking?
hey,long reader first time poster
hey just got his 87 rex and it is having starting problems. Ive already tried all the unflooding measures to get it unflooded except for the ATF treatment. The car only turns over every ten times it is started, otherwise something under the hood just clicks.I have got it unflooded and smoke went everywhere which is normal. It ran like **** for a couple of seconds and then died, when i was accelerating trying to keep it alive. Now the car wont start at all and when i reverse the key to try and start it again the tach bounces to 6k and quacks. At first this was funny, but its not now.I've already changed my plugs to brnad new NGK's. I think my only out is the ATF treatment.
Suggestions...

Regarding the clicking, how's your battery? Clicking when you attempt to crank the engine will be due to a low battery, or a dead/dying starter.
The "quacking" sound is likely the beeper in the CPU making sort of a death rattle. Which could easily be due to low voltage.
Check the battery PROPERLY, charge it, clean your grounds and battery connections, etc.
Can't explain the 6K on the tach though.

Just to elaborate on what AaronCake said, if you don't have a good way of load testing your battery, take it to any auto parts store, they will load test it and probably even give it a proper charge for free.

yeah, its not the battery. I have used countless great batteries that were newly tested and newly charged. I cleaned all the terminals on them. I checked the spark on the ignitors and the blue ones gave me great spark and seemed to fire at a constant rate, but he black ones fire randomly and weakly. Is this supposed to be so? Could the ATF treatment help at all? Its a automatic, 87 N/A so push starting is out of the question.

ATF is only useful for unflooding, nothing else. You could certainly try it.
You will want to only concern yourself with the "front" (leading) spark. If you have fuel and spark, the engine will start. So now, we have to assume that it doesn't have compression. Start by unflooding (using ATF or oil to build compression).
Edit...But I still think you're facing an electrical problem, caused by bad grounds or battery contacts.

I wouldn't recommend the atf in there, well at least not for an extended period of time. There have been too many complaints, and theres good evidence actually that shows that atf destroys the rubber seals sealin ability. I'd just use some wd40 or something to try and build compression.
