PVC intercooler piping?

can you use PVC for intercooler piping?

what else would work good? (besides exhaust piping)
oh, and something that's cheap.

pvc would work. It could withstand the pressure, but I would be worried about the heat under the hood. PVC becomes very pliable when heated.

I'd be worried about the air being too warm and melting the PVC right at the turbo, maybe from the intercooler back, but from the turbo on I wouldn't suggest it.

I dont think it could withstand the underhood temps anywhere. Its not designed to withstand high temps.

think i could use it after the first bend after the stock turbo, where it normally would bend into the stock IC?

That's where it's going to be the hottest, check the temp rating on whatever PVC you might use. I think it's 245 or so at most?

Yeah, I've had my TID mod on for a while, and haven't had any problems. There should be no problem using that black PVC piping. The silicone or rubber, that you use to attach it to the turbo would absorb most of the heat anyways.

Which front mount are you going with, and what size pvc? Also, how are you running the piping, cutting holes in the panels?

The only downside I can think of, is that it's really all straight or angled, there's really no ability to curve or anything, but I guess most intercooler piping is pretty straight as is.

the best thing I could find was an intercooler from a turbo MX-6. one of the older ones. its 2 inches longer, and 1/2 inch wider than the stock rx7 IC(the core), and the end tanks are positioned much better for front mounting. wasn't my first choice, but it was the only thing I could find. and certainly it'll be better than stock. plus, it was only $17 I'll eventually go with a better one. otherwise, I could have gone with a used Audi one for $175 .

for the piping, I was planning on tilting the radiator forward and running it around. this way I could also make a cold air intake easily. I'm not sur what size yet, but since its a stock turbo, probably around 2" piping(interior diameter).

well, hopefully it will all work out, and I'll have a super cheap FMIC. oh, and I'll also be doing the TID mod.

not true. there are assortments of 45*, 90*, 180* bends which you can buy made from PVC. it actually seems smoother than mandrel bent metal piping.

I could even get a Y split PVC pipe, and put air 2 filters on!!
hmm... I wonder how much that would help airflow?

Yeah, but with metal, you can do slow gradual bends, and contour it a little better is what I meant. What kind of bend is 180 degrees, might I ask? :-)

You could also wrap it with header tape tpo keep the inside air temps cooler, and have absolutely no fear of corrosion!

Now all we need is carbon fiber piping to save weight, YEAH!! j/j, I am interested in the types of piping used besides aluminum, how is stainless? Besides PVC, Stainless, and Aluminum what other options are there? I went with a Spearco core,
