Putting engine back in , what maintenance should I do.
I am purchasing an S4 TII motor to swap into my 88 vert. Its coming from a running car and has 84k on it. Since the engine is going to be just hanging on a cherry picker before I put it in , what basic maintenance should I peform before swapping it in?
I'm probably going to do motor mounts , plugs , wires.
I was thinking about buying the Hose Techniques Kit and redoing all the vac lines , should I bother or I can do it later. I'd love to do all that stuff but money is tight and I really want the car running. Its not going to be my daily driver but I do want to go on about a 2 hour , highway-speed roadtrip as soon as I finish it.

It depends on how much you want to spend.
I would strongly suggest replacing the throwout bearing & pilot bearing while it's out - they're cheap items.
I'd also suggest doing the rear coolant lines. The ones under the throttle body, and the one going from the firewall to the driver's side of the engine are ones that like to fail. It would be best to replace all the lines, if you don't know their age, though.
Engine mounts are good, and you might want to check the transmission mounts while things are out.
You'll be flushing the coolant & oil & such to swap it in, so just make sure you have good stuff in when you fill it.
I think that's about it.
Now, what do you actually *need* to replace? Eh, if everything looks good, throw the engine in & go.

The Cause of Death
Might want to reseal the oil pan.
Some say a gasket works just fine. For me, it didn't.
Slap some RTV on that bitch just to be safe. It's kind of a pain in the *** from under the car.
