Putting a boost controller

My friend is taking his boost controller off his 88 supra and he told me he would put it on my car for $20. He said he got it off ebay for about $60.

Do i need to upgrade anything (fuel ect) to make it run good with just a slight increase in psi?

How many psi does a factory 88 TII run at? I was thinking about turning it up like 2psi.....

any downsides?

Lemme kno! Thnx

Cool

I'm new to this but i believe stock turbo II's run at 6.5 psi. oh dont really turn it it too much because you will hit fuel cut as soon as you do. probably around 8psi or so. I used to hit fuel cut on cool nights bones stock. I went an got a HKS fuel cut defenser for 110 shipped. i'm still runnung stock but with the FCD i have had no more problems. If it helps I have 2 HKS FCD's for sale. BEST OFFER

There's no point to a boost controller without a fuel-cut defended (FCD). You can purchase an FCD at racingbeat.com for around $100.

Without the FCD you cannot boost much past stock boost levels (5.5psi on an s4 and 7.5psi on a s5). I've heard 'boost-cut' is about 1psi beyond stock boost, but I remember hitting fuel-cut at around 8.5psi on my stock s4 TII (with a K&N drop-in air filter).

If you want to increase power, the best way would be to upgrade your exhaust and intake (in conjunction with the FCD). If you do a full exhaust upgrade etc., the boost will NATURALLY rise to 10psi+. Now, this isn't necessarily a good thing though...

Your stock fuel system will begin nearing it's max potential, so you will need to LIMIT your boost until you can upgrade. To limit your boost (which you really have to do, so you don't blow your motor) you have to remove your turbo and PORT YOUR WASTEGATE!

Use the 'search' function to find out how to do this properly (be prepared to spend several hours researching).

Pretty much, installing a boost controller on a stock TII is simply a bad idea... lol.

Don't worry though, when I first got my TII a couple years ago, I had the exact same mindset and was going to do the exact same thing... Stick around and learn.

If I WERE YOU, I'd buy an FCD and install it (takes the better part of 2 seconds), install a drop-in K&N filter and hollow out your catalytic converter. This will give you a noticable increase in power and keep the boost under 10psi.

Of course you won't be able to pass emissons with this setup, but if you want power for cheap and easy; this is the way I'd personally suggest.

If you want to do anything more than this, you really have to port your wastegate and upgrade your fuel pump and secondary fuel injectors.

wow, thanks for the great details! What my friend was saying is that he only wanted $20 for the boost controller and he would put it on the car for free, he wasn't trying to rip me off.

Well, it sounds like i'd be better off rejecting his offer. I already have a full cat back exhaust 3" all the way back to something (stock muffler, or resonator and turns it into duals with 2.5" the rest of the way out. It has like the fireball type muffler, but its deep as hell!!!

oh yeah, i'm also planning on removing the resonator for a even deeper tone and release some power!
