purple power on paint = bad???
I was out cleaning my top with some full strength purple power and i accidentally spilled a minute amount on my hood so i quickly wiped it off and damn if it didn’t leave a nice shiny spot.

well to my knowledge as a body man there is no chemical difference between white paint, blue paint and red paint (other than the pigment of course)
so ask this "someone" why a chemical degreaser wouldnot affect white paint...
basically its not a huge deal anyways, wipe it off and compound the spot - it'll be fine.........but it WILL have the same effect on other colours - thats absolute bull

Well “affect” is the sense of fading the paints color. i did use it on some spots that had some worked in dirt under many yrs of wax.
-what actually is the negative effect of the exposure of PP to the body?

the degreasing chemical (basically very mild paint thinner) will soften the paint over time if left on
But its not going to just boil right through, I mean, you use that in your engine bay, and therefore on the paint in your engine bay......so its "safe" for short term exposure
But given the softening nature of the cleaner, if you were to get a spot of it on the door say, and then wiped it off 5 minutes later, the paint may have swril marks in that area now since the paint was softened it was more succeptable to light scratches when you wiped it off.........thats all......you'd just need to give the spot a good buffing (compound) and your golden

Well I’m not stressing to hard cause I plan on painting her sometime, white with some clear coat then some mother of pearl then to top er off some nice thick clear coats.
-so for the final confirmation if I go and hit some of the rough spots with some PP and wipe/hose it off real quick and hit it with some rubbing compound I should be in the clear right?

A little googling revealed that it's good at stripping paint after a long period of time. Rinse thoroughly. It's alkaline so you might want to try a little dilute vinegar too, followed by water to get rid of the vinegar. What you are seeing might not be the purple power, it might be a roughened surface from damage that is already done. In which case you'd have to polish it to get it out with something like a glazing compound (or rubbing compound followed by glaze if it's stubborn) and a cloth and an hour of work.
