Fixing the OEM door sills

So I have an FD with red interior and finding replacement OEM red door sills is nearly impossible. It seems you can still buy new black door sills for like $36 from Amayama + shipping, which is actually not bad at all. And if anyone knows the parts number for OEM red door sills let me know, but I'm pretty sure most if not all red interior parts are NLA. Not sure if tan ones are still available as well

Mine are ok (some scuffs and scratches on the visible outside surface) however most of the plastic tabs that hold the metal retaining clips have broken. So the sills don't stay in place as they should, which is really annoying. I'm the second owner of the FD and when I bought the car the sills were already damaged from improper or aggressive pulling of the sills when taking them off...

So I made some 3D printable tabs that you can glue in and hopefully fix your own sills. I still need to model up the last (4th) tab

I know there are aftermarkets sills that you can buy, but whoever wants to retain the OEM appearance can hopefully use these tabs to fix their sills and keep them in place, especially if you have red/tan interior and can't find a new set of sills.

Link for the STL and Solidworks files here: https://grabcad.com/library/fd-door-sill-tab-1

BTW part number for new metal clips B45668712

Black right door sill FD0168710A02
Black left door sill FD0168720A02

I have just installed the driver side sill and it holds nice and snug. Not sure how long it will last with the glued on tabs...but at least its held in place for now

Great solution to a common problem & thanks for publicly posting the STL files! With a quality epoxy to glue these in, they should hold up better than OEM, I'll have to get my son to print me up a few for the couple of broken sill tabs I have.

Nice work - what about 3D printing the plastic mounting fins underneath the OEM headlight covers?? Could make it significantly stronger and present an alternative to buying brand new covers.

Thanks! I just need to get to the 4th tab shape, interestingly enough, it was the only one that was not broken. Once I model it up I’ll upload it in the above grabcad link

yeah will do. Do you have someone to 3D print these?

the second model above is more like a replacement part in case the entire fin broke off. I can try to make a third model where it would be more like a support to the existing fin (before it brakes off).

on my original covers the rear fin broke. Is this usually the case for others as well?

or do the front mounting points brake as well?

I noticed mine was cracked and before it completely broke off I reinforced it with some 2k plastic adhesive along with some plastic mesh to additionally reinforce it.

I can share the above models on grabcad once I get to my laptop and then people can modify the models as needed.

I have a few people I know with 3d Printers and my kid has one on his robotics team so I do have access. A reinforcement would be great for those like me that haven't had one break but its only a matter of time before we do. I see the previous owner in Japan reinforced mine with some type of epoxy but a brace like this would probably hold up for quite a while
