Purchased C's short shifter...Weighted shift **** suggestions?

My Mom bought me this short shifter for my bday

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33704

My research suggests that C's makes both an s4 and s5 version and the ebay description doesn't quite make it clear which one this is (prior to 89.4, i'm assuming it's an s4). Should I 1) just wait until the shifter comes in and see if my stock s4 **** will thread on, or 2) expect that it won't and buy an appropriate WEIGHTED shift ****?

Also, what difference do you guys notice with the weighted shift *****? Are they worth the money even with a good quality short throw shifter?

Thanks,

~Ant

I bought a Voodoo **** (2" aluminum ball) for use with my short shifter. I don't know if the weight mattered at all, but it sure felt great in the hand. I just had to keep a sock over it when parked on hot days.

If your shifter turns out to be S4 thread, it's hard to find anything that will thread on. I ended up buying an S4-threaded shifter before knowing any better, so I just drilled and tapped by Voodoo **** to fit. There are tons of choices for the S5 thread pattern (same as Miata, FD, S2000, and a bunch of others).

RX-8 **** has good weight to it, and it doesn't matter if you have S4 or S5, it fits both

K, rx8 sounds good, not a big fan of the triangular design tho but I'll keep it in mind.

Any more popular 'weighted' ***** out there?

The threads are made of a rather soft plastic, so while they may be cut for s5/s6 it will fit on any threaded shaft of proper diameter.

Jack I have immense respect for you and your contributions to the community but that isn't too terrible a price for a C's short shifter. I know YOU know a short shifter isn't just cutting the height of a stock shifter. =)

"Name" short shifters are quite pricey...even a Mazdatrix. =)

just buy a s5 threaded gearknob, easier to find) and if the shifter turns out to be s4, just drill it out and re-tap it. few minutes and you're done. much easier to reduce size than increase!!

And you know that a 'Name' shifter functions identically to a no-name. You can't even see the 'Name' on it during use.

BTW, you are talking to a guy who has a C's short shifter-I paid $80 for it 5 years ago on this forum. When I bought mine the alternatives were few and expensive. That was a smokin' deal back then. These days I can't imagine even paying that with the alternatives that are available.

BTW, back on the OP subject, I have a MOMO aluminum Shift **** on my shifter. Red anodized. I have never seen another one like it. And yes, it gets hot!

If you have S5 threading, Nismo makes a great **** that's nicely shaped and weighted.

You want the heaviest **** you can find on your shortshifter, it makes a big difference.

I haven't seen a C's short shifter sell for less than $200 new, not that I've even found that many for sell anyways. Let me state again, it is a bday present. I paid $0

Blox, Razo, and Nismo...next one's i'll be looking at. Thanks guys, keep em comin!

This seem like a good deal?

http://streetrays.com/store/index.ph...oduct_id=29857

It has 10x1.5mm threads which are similar to the s5 design (I believe s4's are 10x1.25mm). If my shifter turns out to be an s4 instead of tapping the shifter could I just pick up some sort of insert?

my c's was s4 threads.

I have a voodoo **** that I drilled and tapped.
I was glad because I already had the **** on my s4 car and when I put a TII trans and the c's shifter in I was hoping I would get a s4 threaded shifter and I did.

At least his shifter is brand new in the box, I would pay $200 for that, the shipping from Japan is what sucked but that is now "mad jdm tight yo"

trust/greddy shift **** is nice and heavy-ish. I like mine, even though probably a knock-off from EBAY.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-G...Q5fAccessories

Probably a cheaper one on there.

I'm still using an S4 shift **** on mine since it doesn't burn me when I get out of work and it's 110 outside.

I find it easier to use when I'm on the track also.
