pulley differences

I just finished my rebuild and got it fired up, I have an s5 streetport in my s4 chassis but anyways...

my s5 pulley is a bit old and you cant see the timing notches or the red/yellow marks on it.

can I use my S4 pulley with out using the whole thing, like just remove the four 10mm bolts and swap pulley covers essentially?

here is the kicker though, my s5 streetport is using s4 housings (the same spark plug location as the 787b ) on s5 irons.

I just wanna set the timing

simplest thing would be to find the marks and paint em...

you could swap pullies but thats a lot more work for no real reason

I don't see any marks because the pulley is a bit rusted up but the pulley hub is fine.

hubs and pulleys are matched sets. there will be timing variations(large or small) if you don't swap the hub as well.

but I have S4 spark plug timing locations, should I try setting the timing with the s4 pulley?

I may just be off by a tooth on the CAS

so if I have s4 rotor housings I should use an S4 pulley for timing indication?

but I have an s5 rotating assembly and irons.

dude I so badly need to know the answer to a very similar question. I have an S4 front cover on an s5 engine with s5 pulley but the timing won't line up and my turbo glows. How the hell do you find TDC on a freaking rotary, I gotta do some searching. Anyways did you find out if the 4 bolt pulley cover alone will swap over? I don't really wanna remove my eccentric shaft bolt.

the spark timing and the placement of the spark plug vs the rotor are two different things.

the timing of the actual spark is in relation to TDC of the rotor (and shaft), it has nothing to do with spark plug location.

Make this very easy on yourself and keep the hub and pulley in the same series. For some odd reason, Mazda has used different hubs and pulleys with every freaking engine series. This causes no end of confusion when mixing S4/S5 hubs/pulleys which are outwardly identical but have a shifted timing marks.

wtb s5 pulley cover lol

but anyways, my s5 pulley only has 1 notch on it and its soo rusted (surface wise) that there is no paint on it.

with having S4 electronics and S4 aluminum housings, should I use the s4 pulley or since my rotating assembly and irons are s5 I use an s5 hub/pulley?

I have a few s4 hubs and pulleys laying around but only 1 s5 but putting them next to eachother they all look the same!

So all S4 hubs/pulleys identical and all S5 hubs/pulleys identical, with differences between the series's (seriei?), or are all the pulleys matched to only 1 hub. I've read both so far, hopefully I won't get both answers here.

I may have mixed things up on my last rebuild.

The pulleys and hubs are the same throughout a series. You can use any S4 pulley with any S4 hub, but you can't mix other series' parts in there.
