I have a fuel problem. Last night I drove into a ditch and my fuel tank ended up scraping across a mario pipe denting the driver side of the tank up about 2 inches.
see that bracket right there? the one supporting the pump up? that was bent up about an inch.

so i am trying to test my fuel flow, i put the pump back in, the bottom of the fuel pump, shown in the first picture- is still touching the bottom of the tank. i turn the key on. i still have the fuel lines disconnected with a thick rag over the outlet tubes for the fuel pump to suck up the gas it should squirt. i bridge the yellow connectors connections and hear the whining of a fuel pump.... 3 seconds and i stop.
the rag is dry, i try again for 7 seconds and the rag is dry..
is the pump broken and spinning operational at the same time? or for some reasons sake do the lines HAVE to be connected for the pump to work?.. i dont know i guess ill order a pump?

would the force of the fuel pump getting hit up like that damage it? from the outside the pump looks untouched, there is a rubber thing between the pump and bracket that i would think took the damage.. and i dont entirely remember but i believe i shut my car off after the accident (i could be wrong though, i wasnt exactly all there at the time)

in troubleshooting, im trying to figure out any other things that could have broken or disconnected in taking an impact like that... im about to go outside and check spark but other than that im stumped. it has to be that still spinning but probably broken fuel pump..
im babbling, ill just post this damned thread.. thanks for the help

im sorry, this thread is useless. delete it.
the fuel pump works, now i have to see (but find out how first because i dont know).
i said screw it and dipped it into a bucket of water, it works. to what degree of pressure i do not know, but it works.

this is frustrating. whos got guesses?

Wow, you got *****!

The fuel pump is not designed to be used with water!
Basically, you just killed your fuel pump.
Water is going to end up rusting the internals.

I saw the pics in the other thread.
I dunno if that really is the check valve, but I would highly recommend you replace it.
I wonder if more bits and pieces are still plugging up your fuel system?
Might be wise to change out the fuel filter now.

your best bet my friend is to get a used gas tank and fuel pump and a new fuel filter.
