Project seemingly comming to an end....hopefully

Here are a few pics of my on going engine rebuild progress. Tomorrow I will be adding oil, coolant, a sensor, downpipe and, a prayer or two lol, anyways after adding these key ingrediances I will be firing up my rebuild for the first time. I will keep you guys up to snuff on how it goes. Anyways here are some pics of the "drop in" faze of the rebuild. The mexican lookin' dudes in the shot are some local rotary puerto rican's that have been cool and helped out alot in this process. Also of course sonicrat helped out as well and did some good lookin' ports on my rebuild.

hey thanks again guys! The mazda rx7 was already cut into it when I bought the rad panel. I bought it from a guy off this website that makes them for a damn good price. Anyways as soon as everything is running I'll give the full story and all the thanks to everyone that helped out.

Is that your fuel filter on the firewall? I really can't make out the routing on the fuel hose?

I thinkkkk I remember a thread about that a long time ago. Looks cool man

Second question...about that exhaust wrap on the intercooler piping. I have newer greddy kit and I notice if you stop the car and feel the cold pipes. They are cool past the battery and then after it passes the strut tower the pipes get really hot.

Have you ran that wrap before? Does it help?

What turbo is it?

lol, yeah thats the fuel filter In an easy location to change now! Basically the hose goes from the feedline and runns under the metal lip and then I cut out a part of the lip and ran the line up to the filter and then from the filter to a fuel pressure sending unit and then to the feedline on the fuel rail. It looks like it should work pretty well, and thanks for the complement. As far as the exhaust wrap goes I actually have a layer of thermal wrap (shiney metallic tape) under the layer of exhaust wrap and basically it's to prevent the hot uim from heat soaking that top piece of piping because it used to get so hot I couldn't touch it. Anyways I have no air temp sensor that I can go by when I say it works but I can tell you one thing. This intercooler setup came with thermal wrap from the factory for the same reason so I'm guessing they know what thier doing. Also if heat can get past thermal tape that is good up until 1500* and past the layer of exhaust wrap then that heat deserves to be there The turbo is a bnr stage III.

Well I threw everything together but forgot to pray, lol. So since I missed that step the rotary gods took advantage of me once again. I started the car up first and it took a while but did fire up and then died out. Oops brake booster not connected. After connecting it and connecting the primary air bleed in the right location I descided to try again. Well this time it fires up and sounded alot better but had problems. Here they go

1. below 2.5k rpm the the engine revs erratic and stalls and blah blah blah. Basically runs like crap. (the problem with this may be contributed to two things 1. my safc shows that when full throttle happens the highest the afm will go to is 65% and no more. When we where revving it once I was stomping on it just for split seconds and the afm never got above like 30%. 2. my wideband shows that when I'm reving it to 3k or really where ever it shows very lean mixtures like in the 17's and 18's.

2 second problem. when I rev my engine the turbo wistles???? when I keep it reved it has a constant whistle sound??? WTF????

Anyways due to these problems I was unsuccesfull in getting it actually on the road today but I was very happy that a) oil pressure was right on the money when on b) started up fairly easy for just being rebuilt and for having these problems c) no leaks as of yet from oil pan gasket or anywhere else!!!! The rebuild looks fine so far so thats great just these problems are pissing me off. Anyways we ended up checking to see if both injector clips where securly fastened etc... and checked to see if we where getting good fuel pressure and everything looked fine. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks.

Sounds like a vac/boost leak to me. (explains the whistle)

Of course.... you're getting more air than the ECU thinks, so the ECU injectors fuel for less air, which = lean.
