Programable Non-Turbo Computer for S4 RX-7?
I was wondering if there is a programable computer for 2nd Gen RX-7 Non turbo. I really dont want to spend the money for an AEM Stand Alone, just a computer to insert custom burned chips. my friend has one for his honda, and his works fine. i will be installin a turbo motor soon, but want to play with my computer now. Any help will be greatly honored!
Thanx,
Harold

For now, your only choices for a fully programmable ECU are standalones such as Haltech, Microtech, etc. If you look hard enough, you can find a used one for $700 (or less). Another choice is the Megasquirt n' Spark, which is a DIY standalone that you build yourself. It takes a little bit of soldering, fabrication, etc. but it only costs ~$250 for the kit. You can also buy "pre-made" kits for ~$350 that require much less work.
When the Rtek 2.0 comes out, the S4 people will finally have a fully programmable "stock" ECU, but I'm not sure when that will be released. Search the forum for "rtek" and check www.pocketlogger.com for more info on the Rtek.

The question is...WHY?
Move or remove the speed limiter?
The stock one is fine.
Unless you're running a highly ported motor with a big exhaust, higher redline just adds unnecessary wear&tear on the engine.
Change the fuel maps?
A fuel computer does that without messing with the computer coding - i.e. A'PEXi S-AFC.
Change the ignition timing?
Might be worth a shot, but why on a street car?
Change something else we don't know about???

When we reprogram ECUs we put NINJAS inside them so that N/As go faster.
But don't tell anyone I told you.

we were playing with my friends ECU in his honda, and he was able to have a 2-step programed in the computer, which i thought was pretty cool. all i wanted is to program the computer for fuel maps and timing, just lookin to improve... also to spank a few honda owners, if u kno what i mean...

You're putting in a 13BT soon, so stop messing around and put in a haltech NOW. That way you don't waste time and money.

They are not worth burning the gas.
