Problems starting...

I go to school in chicago... (from texas)... so anyway... i came up here this year and my car now has problems starting...

The weather is not that bad... still not frozen tundra...

What would cause this?

It started fine in Tx.

Could it be the ethanol they put in the gas here?
Does it just need a tune-up?

I usually have to crank at least two times... Then when it finally does start, I have to hold the throttle at 2k for about 30 seconds before it will idle (at 1500 mind you)... Sometimes it dies again after this... After about 5 min, I can have it running and the idle will drop to normal (650-750)...

What's so different that my baby won't start?

Thanks in advance...

Matt

How long did it sit anyways? I had mine sitting for probably 6 months & I put a whole thing of rubbing alcohol in to help with the old gas & it worked just fine. Plugs & wire changed might help. I would change the oil. If still having problems ask hailers, he knows alot of shiznit

It sits for maybe a day at a time... But never more 6han say 3 days...

Wires and plugs were changed 20-25k miles ago... Time for some new ones?

Even so, this doesn't explain why it would start in Tx, but not in Chicago...

Thanks...

Well I don't believe its your wires, could be plugs though. I am not sure but sounds like something more serious maybe.

check your battery connection - has it been raining in Chicago?

it might need cleaning

Also i had the little clutch check thing break on me once - the one that checks if your clutch is all the way depressed. That kept me from starting it a couple times.

Thanks for all the replies...

It's not that the car isn't trying to start... It's trying just with very little luck until the third crank...

By the way, I too do not have to have the clutch in to start my car...

The battery connection is clean... I am going to replace plugs this weekend...

This is really starting to bother me, because unless it is the ethanol in chicago's gas, I can't figure out would cause this...

you might want to try runnin some injector cleaner through. did the elevation change much from tx to chi? if so it might take a while for the ecu to compensate for the elevation change. my 2 cents.
