Problems with new rx7

I just bought a 1989 rx7 convertable non turbo and im having some troubles. When i hit the gas pedal at least half way down the engine bogs out. The check engine light is on. Sometimes when i hit the headlights on it misfires right away once and after that i can hit the gas pedal down but it idels real high about 3000 rpm and i have more power but if i put the lights off it goes back to no power and can't hit the gas pedal to much. when the headlights are off and it idles rough and still high about 1000 - 1500 rpm.

What kind of voltages are you seeing with the light on an off. Probable bad battery or alernator, sounds like a power issue.

If your voltage sucks like below 12 on your dash gauge. Get a multimeter or go to a battery place and have them check your battery and alternator. Make sure the belt on the alternator is tight. Check your grounds too.

Check the faq and search for how to pull your engine codes, it is not that hard and could point you in the right direction. There is a good write-up on the archive about grounding.
