Problems with my new car

One of the perks with my jb is that sometimes I get a really good deal on cars. Last week I bought a 87 Turbo for $100 it only has 98k miles on it. I've been wanting one ever since I had to get rid of my GTU about 5 years ago. The car was alittle dirty but not too rough so I took the plunge. After changing the oil, plugs, and wires it passed the state emissions test easily. But it still runs a little rough. When it idles I can hear little popping sounds occasionally in the exhaust. Also when it gets to high rpms 7k it really hesitates and bogs down. Yesterday it started to not idle once warmed up. As soon as I take my foot off the gas pedle the rpms will drop and it will stall. I am thinking that it may be a vacume leak or maybe timing. Has anyone else experianced this kind of problem? My next day off is on thursday and I hope to fix it then. Thanks in advance for any help given.

Ooooohhh....

Someone with similar problems to my N/A....I get the same popping and it does idle irratically.....but mine will either idle at 700 rpm or 1000 rpm.

Some power loss after 6000 rpm

Have the basics been checked first???

Things like timing, the BAC operation, vac leaks, TPS, and compression?

Since you are running rich or unburned and high RPM problems as well, I would be also double checking the plugs and plug wires for a broken or disconnected lead.

I will be checking all those on Thursday. My first order is timing and then vac leaks, then BAC. I am fortunate to have an experianced rotary mechanic on staff here and this is what he recommended as well. Thanks alot guys

My BAC is fine, plugs are sitting in a bag, fresh from the parts store.

Timing is going to require either shelling out the cash for a timing light or finding someone to borrow one from...

Vacuum lines are replaced throughout my car and the TPS was just set, which allowed me to get my idle at 750....but after some driving it won't always hold there.

Troyd and Audiofight - the popping sounds like minor backfiring, how many k's on the rotors? also, if the power is cuttin' back at high rpm, most likely, your 5th and 6th ports are sticking.

Mine has 98k on it. I just did a little vacume check on mine and found a vac line that was very brittle and leaky. Replaced the line and the engine idles just fine now. Still have the popping and will have to wait for thurs to check the timing. I may have to buy a spool of vac line and replace all of it 1 hose at a time.

I think my popping is timing related. I have already replaced 99% of the vac lines with blue silicon hose.....was cheaper than the black stuff and came in all the sizes I needed from Autozone for $15.99

5th and 6th ports might be sticking, but I would hate to have to pull everything apart again to clean them. I cleaned them when I put the new/used engine in after blowing an apex at 167k....the engine came out of a car with 99k from Tennessee and the engine was rebuilt already...got it for a good price.
