Problems installing my Corksport Cat-back

this isnt good, my corksport catback wont bolt up to the racing beat downpipe/presilencer combo that i have. the presilencers studs are too close together and the corksport holes are further apart, as the tubing seems much larger. the inner dimension for the CS is 3 1/4 inches (80mm) and the RB presilencer inner dimension is much smaller as it serves as a silencer so its packed with the stuff. what the hell do i do? i know some of you guys have RB presilencer bolted to the CS catback, what did you do to make it fit?

You ordered the wrong one there me thinks. There are 2 CS catbacks, one that is 80mm (yours) meant for turbo applications mostly, and the other that is meant to bolt up to the stock cat that is 2.5" and tapers to 3, that's the one you should've gotten I'm guessing since you have an n/a and the RB presilencer is probably 2.5" as well.

You could chop the flange and a little pipe off, take it to an exhaust shop, and have them weld a 3 1/4 to 2.5" adapter with 2.5" flange on it. Measure the presilencer hole to make sure, but I'm positive its 2.5"

Oh actually, take it to the exhaust shop without cutting it off yourself, have them do it and explain you need it the EXACT same length it is now, you dont want to have too much or too little because then you'll be right back to having a new problem.

Or just sell it and buy the right one.

I say send it back and accept the restocking fee. Tell them that you just want the right one, and that you'll pay a restocking fee and im sure they will consider. Tell them that its never been used either.

If you weld it and ****, your never going to be able to sell it in the future, and I personally think when it comes to cars you shouldn't modify it so that it cannot be undone easily... welding is not the key here.

If anything, im sure that you could fab up some kind of adapater plates that could be doubled or tripled up to make it fit.

no, i meant its USED as in i bought it used from someone on this forum, he had it on his car (a gxl n/a supposedly) for 4 months. the exhaust looks brand spanking new. Dub's idea isnt that bad, slice of the very end of the pipe (or beginning technically) and weld on a 2.5" -> 3" adapter. i wonder if midas would do it, supposedly they're the "muffler people"...

as you can see i'm the kind of person who will do anything to make something fit, doh.

If you're really sure you want your car that loud, cutting off the flange on the catback and welding on an adaptor is definitely the way to go. I speak from experience when I say that it will be LOUD!!!

it cant be any louder than how my car is right now, the downpipe and the presilencer and thats it. with the catback i assume it will be quiter with the muffler at the end.

^ dude, i owe you like, 5 now? 3 of those places are no more than 10 mins away from me. thanks a lot!!!

i was just eyeing my old exhaust and both of the 2.5" flanges on the cat are in good condition. im thinking of taking the saw to that piece and cutting the end off and having it welded on the CB... i'll see tomorrow, im going to check those places out and midas too. i was going to start project CAI tomorrow but it will have to wait now. ive got a headache =p

Haha, no problem... I'm here to help

Just remember when you take everything in to tell them you need it the exact length it is now (as as close as possibly can be) otherwise you'll have fitment issues and such.

Cutting the pipe/flange off the cat is a good idea, then you'll just need to have them cut/weld it onto the CS catback.

Good luck!

very true, if they cut it too short, its gonna put some stress on the hangers as they'll be hanging diagonally, not to mention my bumper will get some nasty black stains if its not sticking out as far as it should.

Yep, good news is if you HAVE to do this I'll let you in on a simple fix. If it ends up slightly too short, you can use a 2.5" flange (not welded to anything) as a spacer in between the silencer and the catback. I had to do this at one point when my test pipe was too short. Worked perfectly, no leaks or anything. So you have options if needed, but just tell them to do it right the first time heh.

call me crazy, but here is what a half hour + a hack saw + some determination will get you:

old cat with the 2.5" end cut off

hopefully what it will be welded onto tomorrow...

its 11pm and im gonna go jump in the pool to cool off for a few. im hoping to have my ex-windshield washer bottle's hole drilled out by midnight for the CAI

Is the stock cat really 2.5"? Did you measure, because I really don't know since I've never had or seen a stock cat, but christ the CS looks SO much bigger in that pic.

Yeah, I guess it can't get too much louder than it already is. The CS catback should deepen the tone and maybe mellow it out a bit. My system with a header, hiflow cat and CS catback put out 124Db at 10', which I thought was kind of excessive.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the stock cat flange ID is more like 2 1/8". The good news is that any decent muffler shop should have some 2 1/2" flanges in stock...

You cant round out your high flow cat or MP's flange to mate up to it with a drill? You're going to be disappointed with the CS catback, it wont quiet things down, but it will scare the **** out of old women
