Problems already!!!
Hey guys,
Yesterday the muffler on the drivers side of my car fell off, i was wondering how much to fix it??? I took it in to this ghetto place and they said that they would only fix it if i changed the other muffler and the pipe the connects the 2 mufflers, because all that is rusted. What is a reasonable price??? They wanted $275.
And another thing is i need to get the stick fixed, it gets sooo warm that it smells like something is burning and it is annoying the **** out of me. How much am i looking at to fix all of this???
Somebody in the other post said my inner shift boots are probably shot and they cost about $65, is there anything cheaper that i can do instead???

Nope, the shift will get hot anyhow, anyway, so only way to find out if something's wrong is to check: take out the shiftknob assembly and check it yourself (be carefull with the leather cover!!).
About the muffler, it is rusted
Holy jesus, and you didnt even know ? Anyway, if one muffler is rusted, then probably the other muffler and the Y pipe are rusted too, so you'll need to replace everything. 265$ is a VERY reasonable price for a catback exhaust (unless its not SS
). Unless you find something cheaper in a junk yard, I dont think there is a cheaper way to do this...

there has to be something wrong with the stick assembly, cause it is melting something and it smells. $275 seems a bit much, on my Civic i had a Greddy Evo catback installed for $450 total.
So whats your point ? An exhaust for a Rex is waaayyy more expensive than that of a Civic (I know, I used to own a ESi myself), and you said it yourself that the guys over there told you 265, and the Greddy costs 450. So, unless the guys aren't proposing full SS exhaust (which is NOT good
), their price seems pretty decent. Anyway, I'm from Greece, and what I know about prices over there comes from discussions with other members. Maybe you should wait a little to get to get some more opinions, but thats what the final conclusion should be...
Oh, about the stick, have you check the oil and fluids for the tranny ? Now seems like a very good time

yea i guess that is a pretty good price. What is a SS exhaust?
And about the tranny fluids, i have redline in there, but when i put my ear close to the stick and can hear right through it. Like there is nothing under the boot, which probably means the inner boots are worn???
Thanks for your help.

SS: Stainless Steel. The heat from a rotary (especially a Turbo) will easily and quickly melt anything thats not SS from start to finish
The complete exhaust must be ss in order to last ANY amount of time...
Well, since you seem to have doubts about your shiftbox, a good idea would be to check it yourself. Have some fresh 90W oil ready, and take out the boots (5min tops). Check everything. There is a very good how-to with pixs on Mazdatrix's site...
Mind you that having or not having boots will not affect the temperature of the stick. It just prevents noise...Heat must be from another source. Maybe loss of oil, maybe extremely worn metals in there...
Anyway, only one way to find out...

Exhaust prices and boot
Change your tranny fluid if the Redline is older. Pull your stick just to make sure the boots really haven't worn through.
Prices for exhaust parts, latest Victoria British Catalog RX7 86-92 www.victoriabritish.com are:
Center Pipe: 99.95
Muffler LH Coupe: Non turbo 119.95
Muffler RH Coupe: Non turbo 119.95
Your quote doesn't sound bad, the question is the quality of the components. Personally, the chrome tailpipes always look cheesy on aftermarket stuff because they are dinkier than the stock ones. Either that or the chrome pipe is left off completely and that really looks bad. Invest in a quality system from RX7.com for instance and you won't have to change it for years. Your choice how many times you want to visit exhaust places. Great money makers by the way for small business entrepeneurs!

Mazdatrix has the inner shifter boot set for $41. This fixes the problem if yours are bad. Mine were and my shifter would get hot, when I replaced these boots, the heat was gone. Another thing to check is to make sure that you dont have any exhaust leaks around the cats, this will cause hot exhaust gas to rise into the shifter area and facilitate the extra heat.
The exhaust temps of rotary motors will not melt non-stainless exhaust components. Stainless will last longer because it does not rust. The material inside your mufflers will last alot longer if it is stainless.
Seen many stainless steel headers where the exhaust is hottest? I haven't.

ummmmm, no...SS is great...but not like the other catbacks like the Apexi N1's aren't. the GReddy Extreme dual catback isn't SS...and that was the most sought after ever! haha
