Question Problem STILL not fixed.....

Well, I did everything in my power to fix the damn idling issue I am having. I've yet to change the wires - as I'm looking for a store who carries NGK, and so far I've found zero.

Is there any other reason why my idling is malfuncutioning after I changed the spark plugs? Especially on cold start it will die extremely quickly. Sometimes it'll idle to 3k-4k at start up, then quickly die. Other times when you move the car a bit, stop or come to a full stop.... it'll die. You'd have to blip the throttle (If you make it in time) enough so that it'll go back up to normal RPMs to keep idle.

I don't know, nor understand wh y the car is misbehaving the way it is. Help? Please.!

Car has ~178,800 miles on her.

You've checked all of the common problems? Vac leaks, tps, bac, etc... ? I have the same type of problem with my 87 TII. Trying to find out what it is also

Do this. Fully warm the car up and let it idle. Now pull the plug off the bac. The car should still idle, maybe a touch lower, but still idle.

If the car does not maintain an idle, put the bac plug back on and start from square one. Set the timing. Then set the tps. Then install the initial set coupler and set the idle using the screw on the top of the dynamic chamber. If the idle is still off....on a 86-88 you might try to adjust the variable resistor by turning it to the Rich or the Lean direction to get the idle a bit better.

The Fuel section in the online manual at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com has the above procedures.

Nope.

Had the ALT and Battery checked a few weeks ago before I had the spark plugs changed.

The car was running pretty smoothe, besides the car dying at any giving time.

After I changed the plugs, the car quit dying at any given time but continued to die at start up, when it idles, and coming to a hault.

I changed my ALT about 3 months ago or so because it had died on me. It was not a brand new alt, but a rebuilt one. People have told me it could be the cause of why my car is running poorly. But Icouldn't tell you - thank goodness for warrantees(sp).

HAILERS - I will have to try that either tomorrow or this weekend. Thank you for the information.

My car also has the horrible 1500-2000 idle, and I am just wondering how does the idle mess up over the years??? And I can't really figure mine out it just started doing it after I reamoved the rats nest, and I thought it was a vacume leak, but I have RTVed until I can't RTV no more, and there is still have shitty idle. And before I took the rats nest out it would stay at about 750-1000, I really don't understand.

You'll probably need to just the idle from the TPS. Mine doesn't idle at all and if it does (by some luck some days) it'll idle straight at 1k RPM.... sometimes at normal idle.

But the car will die when you come to a hault sometimes (or if I see my volts go down to 12).

I guessI still don't understand

well i have this problem only on start-up, its because of the cold engine!! start it in gear with clutch in!!! doing this will activate the cold weather start-up system(this will not work in neutral) it should only stall out once or twice then it should be fine!! i had this same prob: changed the plugs and wires(upgraded ones)

the idle will stay at like 2000rpm's til motor warms ups at about 1/4 on gauge(few moments, depending on how cold it is) it should return to like 750-1000rpms!! this is what my car does and it doesnt stall out what so ever after warmup!!

BAC operation? I have no clue what it is, or what to do?.

I haven't done vaccum leaks, because I'm not sure what to exactly do. Don't you take like WD-40 and spray it on the hoses, and then turn the car on? I dunno.

I have been meaning to buy my plug wires and new hoses - but I can not find the specific brand i'm wanting - NGK - noone has them it seems, only for the spark plugs.

Maybe I'm missing something entirely.

Well, I don't need the plugs, as I've changed them a week ago. I need the plug wires and hoses .

But I will be trying what Hailers and Mark told me in the earlier part of this thread Friday. This is if I get time - and be sure I know what I'm doing. I am in no mood to mess up my car - and have it not working at all.

With my luck, that'll probably happen. Atleast I can do is go to the stores around here and see if they have what I've been looking for, change the wires and hoses, and see if that helps while I do the other tid-bit information that was posted.

I will - I will probably not touch this thread (unless someone else has something to say about the issue) until I work on it Tomorrow/Friday and this weekend.

Okay well.....

Getting a new TPS from Steven Fooshee, not sure how many of you guys know him. I also had to wire open my 6ports, because they were not working at all. After I did that, the car wouldn't idle worth **** for 2 days.... I had to stay ON the throttle no matter what - now it goes back as to what it has done before.

As soon as I try the new TPS, or whatever I get from Fooshee, i'll post what goes on.

I don't understand my car

Christi,

Someone on E-bay was selling a brand new set of NGK wires. Price looked pretty reasonable.
