problem please help! smoking through gear box.....

smells really bad, my car is goes to 6000 rpms before moving in 1st gear, very weak. just this morning it was running strong! i searched already and couldnt find jack, please help! car is 88 gxl

what do you mean it goes to 6k before moving? Is the clutch slippin? or is it an auto?

If its not automatic, it means that your clutch is completely shot, and needs to be replaced. The smoke that you're seeing is what remains of the clutch being spun rapidly against the flywheel and pressureplate.

If you have automatic, it means that your torque converter is fscked up, I think (not too good on the whole automatic thing).

if it's an auto the fluid level could be low but if it is smoking its probably too late, if it's a manual your clutch is likely fubared.

either way, sorry to say, you're screwed...

so this is a torque converter issue, given it's an automatic? i just stumbled on this thread and i've noticed the same thing, (light smoke from under shifter thingy), i think, twice in the month i've had the car.

he has a 5 speed, or had untill this morning!! sorry man yeah sounds like a major problem in the clutch area.
