problem with my dash light

Hi guys,
I have some trouble with my dash light. Sometime it won't stop flashing. I don't know if someone ever had that problem and how to resolve it.

Thanks

Alex

Yeah, WHICH DASH LIGHT?? Do you mean the "cluster lights" on the dashboard itself? If so there are at least a dozen sites that will tell you how to resolder the "cold solder joints"! Think that is sort of a mantra for us rxers!

i have a similar problem with my 86 gxl... one of the lights works on the gauges (only lights up the 3,4, and 5 rpm) which is really anoying at night... does anyone agree with me that alll the light bulbs must be connected the same way to complete the circuit???

I don't think this is the same problem as above, but no, dash illumination bulbs are connected in parallel, so one not working won't affect the others. It sounds like some of your bulbs are blown. Just pull out the instrument cluster and replace them.

It's light on the dashboard that won't stop flashing. I need to push on the dimmer button to stop that flashing. I guess it's just a bad connection but how to arrange it ??

all lights in the dash at same time. Like they all miss current.

2 words:
Light Switch.
Mine started to go just like that. Then, it started to smoke, and now it only works sometimes for the headlights/dashlights/parking lights. If I push on the switch just right, everything works just fine. I've tried 6 switches from junk yards, but all have been scrap. I just can't bring myself to spend the big bucks on a new one.

Yeah the dimmer switch is dirty or the light switch contacts are bad.

Replace the light switch

Yea! That's exactly my problem. When i push on switch everything will be fine... sometimes. Do you know if it's repairable, i don't want to spend a lot of money to buy 15 light switch like Nick86.

Thanks guys

It's damn hard to repair. The circuit board is in a sealed part of the plastic enclosure. Personally, I mangled the plastic shroud and sprayed a bunch of cleaner in there. It worked for a month or so, but now it's back to the same thing. If you got artful with a dremel, you could probably clear enough plastic away from the board to resolder the joints, but don't blame me if you ****-up the switch. You also have to be careful that you don't cut away the mounting holes for the switch, or it will rattle constantly. You never know though - you may find a working switch in a scrap yard for $15!

Its not worth repairing. replace it with a junk yard one if your are cheap and a new one and harness if you are rich.
