Unhappy PROBLEM: 87 FC - License Plate wide for rear bracket

Hi all,

I'm from WA, Australia and I've just imported an '87 FC from Japan. The problem is the standard license plates are gonna be too wide (372mm) for the brackets in the rear tail light assembly. Are there any FC owners out there with this same problem? Should I try trimming the plates (is this legal?) or should I try cutting into the plastic plate holder assembly?

I know a guy here in the states that trimmed a plate to fit his car, he never had a problem with it... even though it was illegal.

Some cars imported from Japan have that problem with our plates too, since Japanese plates are quite small. Usually the edges of the plate are bend outwards to make it fit, since it's technically ilegal to modify the plate by cutting it. Personally I'd just cut it.
