price for a rolling chassis? and Hello!

Hi! I'm been a lurker for quite a while, but been a bit shy to post. Thought I'd finally introduce myself since I have a quick question, and kill 2 birds with one stone.

So, there's this 89' t2 i'm thinking about picking up but the motor is fubared, how much would be a fair price to offer?

depending on the shape/condition, and what's wrong with the engine, upto $2000 or so.

i'm gonna go with Sonic and say $1200-2000. I picked up my 89 TII for $1500 not running. Very nice condition in and out. Engine started up and ran well when I got it home, the engine had a blown coolant seal however and low compression. I feel I got a good deal for the condition it is in.

The body is nice, very clean and looks new. Apex seals are busted though, doesn't run, so I'd have to tow it to about 40miles or so. So maybe 1000-ish?

It all depends on what you mean by rolling chassis, if you want something that is stripped and it needs engine and interior crap that is goign to be more and a car that is stripped and ready to be raced. I got a TII chassis, amazing condition for 950, no engine though. Like I said it was in absolutely immaculate condition! I was really supprised when I saw it how nice it was.

2000 grand for one with a blown motor? Way too much. Even if you think about getting a Junk-spec motor for around 900. Tack on another grand for a rebuild with some reliability mods and some porting and you are looking at 4k plus before you even replace tires and worn suspension parts.

Damn you guys are willing to spend way more than me.
Granted the interiors of both of my FC's are pretty crappy... but I only paid $250 for my first NA out of a junkyard (no motor/tranny), and $200 for my second NA (complete drivetrain).

Mint inside/out? Excellent OEM paint? S5 TII?

I would pay up to $2.5K if it meets all of the above. I could rebuild the engine myself and fix the other odd ends for around $1500-2000 or so and have a new S5 TII with a practically fresh engine.

Hey, if you don't buy it, let me know.

Not more than $1200 if the body and interior is perfect, Less than 100K on the body and it only needs a motor.

Hell, I paid $100 for my 10th AE with no motor or tranny or hood and needing paint.

You guys with $$$ falling out your butts quit driving up the prices of OLD DEAD sportscars for the rest of us poor folk. 2.5K for an FC with chunks of apex seals embedded in the housings and in the turbo? No f'in way. Maybe for an FD.

scurvy - be firm with the seller that he/she is offering a 15-year-old unrebuildable(heh heh...) dead-as-a-doorknob pile of parts that if it ran probably needs all kind of updating, maintenance, fixing odds and ends, etc, and then make a low-ball on-the-spot offer of just over $1K. If it really is a sweet car, mint interior and paint, no fluid leaks, let yourself get bargained up to $1500.

And then post it!

I think you are all crazy.

I dont care how great the body is I wouldnt pay a cent more than a $1000 and thats already too much.

Really think about it you can pick them up all day long on auto trader or ebay or cars.com still running in great condition for no more that 4500.

I have been though all of this once before. (I can put a motor in it for a thousand or so.) Ya right.
We all know to build a motor right it takes about 2500 and thats just for the motor. Im sure turbo is toast to.
So why not buy some body elses money pit.

Thats my advice.

I don't know about you guys but over here, very clean S5 TII's demand a lot of money plus the fact that they are very rare. Paint for example is something that I don't really want to mess with. Bare minimum, 2 grand will get a "decent" paint job. And for the age of our cars, most of the paint has gone bad or faded.

I didn't say I have 2.5 grand to spend on another RX7 but if I did, I wouldn't mind paying up to that much for it. I know its very possible to get it cheaper like under $1500.

The way I see it, I don't want to spend $5-9K or so for a mint S5 TII and have my engine blow on me 10K miles later or something (which may not happen but its a possibililty.) Just my $0.02...
