There was a guy, i think on here, that welded together a connecting pipe with 2 flanges that filled the space between his header and the stock cat. Definately a more econmical approach before you get a ticket for a loud exhaust.

There was a picture of it, but i can't seem to find it.

Any updates for an old but interesting thread on "alternative" mufflers?

there is a thread about using the borla XR-1 in this fashion that is just a handful of days old. i won't be cheaper than the RB presilencer, but i bet it will muffle alot better.

I looked at the Borla and it looks like it's not good for a lowered car since the diameter appears to lend itself to being scraped over speedbumps.

the borla website says the XR-1 oval muffler is 4 1/2" thick. the racing beat presilencer has a 4" outer diameter.

edit: btw i am looking at the oval 16 x 4 1/2" x 7 7/8" 2.5 in/out muffler here:

I am putting a borla xr1 oval into my new custom DP setup connecting to my corksport catback to try and deaden the sound a little. Just the 3inch turbo back is enuff to make you ears bleed. Its the loudest car I have ever seen. And any of the forum members who have heard it completely agree. Over 5k its nothing but flames and animals running away far far away.
