What is involved in the sanding process? Like what grit of paper and stuff like that , is there a certain way to sand it like in a certain direction?
Any inputs great!!

LoL, I have been a painter for the last 15 years and belive me you dont just pick a gun up and repaint your car.
If you are brave enough to do it remember when you prep it the more time you spend geting iot right the beter the end product will be.
Another thing is if you are a first timer try not to paint to much of your car in one hit and i would paint somthing easly repairable first i.e. say your bonnet then you will no what your leting your self in for.
Then last but not least have you got all the gear? Compresor,Gun,Mask etc
Now for the best bit right you want Paper Grades. Fillet etc should be finished with 180 grit befor any high build is put on any lower than that any over time the Scratches will come back, When you have it in Primer you must finish it in 800 grit paper for basicly the same reason and any nibs or runs can be removed (after good few days air dry) with 2000 Grit then polished with somthing like G3 or a simalar abrasive polish.
What can i say......Good Luck.

Hey Grizzly or any other painters on the board, could I ask you what some of your favorite products are? Like what kind of body fillers, primers, sealers, paints/clearcoats, guns you like? Just curious. Thanks.

hmm..
I am redoing the entire underbody of the car including the caseings for the differential and the transmission (removing ALL rust with a tiny dremmel tool) then I am re-painting, I need to know what kind of paints I should use, brand etc.
I am thinking of a sealing/primer coat and then some ashphalt/rubber undercoating.

I cant realy help as i am in the Uk. If you have any of this stuff over there its good.
Glasurit 2 pack High solids colour and high Build primer, Plastic Padding (Ultima Filler) then 3m's Tape and Paper is good stuff.
I like this stuff as its nice to put on and flows well, the other thing you will have to watch is the hardner you use with it (there is usaly 3 types Normal,Fast and Extra fast) if you are going to paint your hole car out side a booth i would try to use fast but i would do it on a very still day around the early 20 deg mark.
If i was in your position i would'nt paint it like the "Painting the 7" guy is, i would try to do as much of the bits of the car as possable as the less you have to do at once the quicker you can send the paint off and therefor the less nibs and runs etc you'll get (try painting somthing small first). Also try to paint as much of the bits as they are fitted to the car i.e. bonnet flat etc

last but not least i use a 40Cfm compresor with a Devilbis Gti gun and a air fed mask.
Try ringing a hire shop to see if you can get the gear. The paint side of things just go to a trade paint supplyer he will proberly try to talk you out of it but he will have a good idear of what you need (paint wise).
Any thing else just shout!

to be honist i would not like to paint my car out side a booth as its a controled enviroment and very still so you dont get big temp drops and things like that.
Before you start work go to a Body shop and get two quotes one for the full job the other for just applying the paint, get your Met cost and dubble it and if they are any way neer then get the pro to do it as i can safly say i was a crap painter for a good year until i got the hang of it (be prepaired to do it twice)
