pre-mix and 8 month old rebuild
pre-mix and 8 month old rebuild
Okay, my engine has been sitting for awhile. I'm going to be pre-mixing. I've read threads saying you should use 100:1 ratio, like 1 ounce a gallon or something like that. Would it hurt to use like 50:1 ratio or something like that during the first part of the break in? I'm just worried that the engine isn't going to be lubricated enough. Think it would be a good idea?
Yea use the 100:1 method, if you double it your gonna start burning noticable amounts of blue smoke I would think. Having blue smoke coming out of a nice car, regardless if its a good thing (such as a premixers case) doens't look to hot.
Running it down to 50:1 ratios will only cause your exhaust to smoke significantly.
There's no reason to run the pre-mix that rich.
Mazda R&D showed that there was no significant advantage to running more lubrication internally (SAE paper).

When I finally installed my engine it had half a tank of gas in it and I put 16 ounces of premix in the tank and got no blue smoke. Mine was a fresh rebuild too and I just went for it and hoped for the best. I'm happy with the results.
