power windows switch

Hey does the switch snap onto anything? I can't seem to put it on and there doesn't seem to be any broken part.

nm got it. It snaps on the bottom part, which is of course broken =(

Watch out, 86-88 switches is different than 89-91 switches. I learned the tough way, lucky i just took it apart and cleaned all the contact.

Yep that's it. The same thingy broke on mine so the little stick thingy can't push the switches.

Thanks tmak26b, I'll remember that. But is it the switch that's not swappable cause I only need the plastic part from the 2nd pic.

vmb, someone did it successfully here: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...wer+window+fix

yeah I'm trying to hunt one down. Already bought a new one from the dealership in the mean time for $115.

You can also just rob the passenger's side until you find one

DC. It seems like freaking Mazda made bad electronics on the 86-88 power window switch. They fixed it in 89+, but then they screwed up on the plastic part. I have a 86-88 switch on my 90 now, works good after ic lean teh contact

No it doesnt, the switch is totally different. The S5 switch got these white pieces that move up and down. On the S4, its these copper springs that hits up and down. You cant interchange them. You have to either buy a S4 switch, or pray you will find a S5 switch (chances are that they are not cheap)

I can sell you a S5 switch gut, without the plastic, but hte electronic works great :P 5 bucks is all yours

Question, how on earth do you get the s4 switch out, I took off the door panel and it looks to be held on by two small phillips screws but I don't see how I'll get a screwdriver in there...any tips? My driver side window switch is fubared as well.

Push it up, it should come right out. Don't force it though, might be different for S4 cars.

I though it would come off by pushing it up and out but it just looks like there are two screws holding it in...I will try it again when I get home from school. Thanks!

The window switch pry’s up. The S4 switch is not as deep as the S5, but the plug is the same. I put an S5 switch in an S4 door, but I had to Dremmel out some clearance under it.
S5 WINDOW SWITCH FIX
Separate the lower finger from the upper half of the rocker. (That should be right where it broke)
Fill the top end of the lower half with bondo marine epoxy putty stick and fit it to the top part. Clean up the excess and let it cure.
Drill a small hole from the top into the epoxy, and fit a self-tapping screw.
Remove the screw, separate the two halves, reassemble in the switch plate, rescrew it together.
The epoxy provides the anchor. The screw holds it together. I’ll put up with a screw showing to save $124

AND WHAT'S REALLY FUNNY!!!!!

The the new one I bought is UPGRADED!!!! and is obviously been redesigned to not have this problem.

That's what I love about mazda - they eventually fix it instead of releasing the same defective part (unlike all american auto manufacturers).
