power window problem (another) help.

I have a 90 vert and my pass side window doesn't work properly. It only goes down from passenger side , it doesn't do anything from drivers side, I thought it was a short at first until someone told me it was the drivers side master switch. I finally got a s4 master p. window switch and replaced it and nothing . I check the forum for others with similar problems and read about a lot of people being able to fix theirs taking them apart and cleaning the contacts inside the switches . I did both my switches and again nothing , I tested the motors and nothing . I don't know what else to do besides aftermarket switches . please help.

sounds like a wiring problem.

test...

take the plug that goes to the interior door light and plug it into the window motor plug. it is the same size plug. it should go down. if it doesnt then the motor is burnt out. if it does go down just piggy back some wires from the light plug and plug tap them into the motor wire ( in reverse order). that will make the window go back up.

if the window does go up and down by applying direct electricity then it is wiring.

Well then it must be a wiring problem, because I already test the motors running wires from the battery to the pass. window motor and it goes up and down with no problems. I don't need to try the door light test because it goes down from the pass side switch , it just doesn't come back up. lol

I think I'm just gonna get the aftermarket switches from commando security systems that come with new wiring harness for the switches. Does anybody know how much I can get for a good s4 master power window switch ?

If the problem is in the car's wiring harness, then make sure the aftermarket switches will solve the problem before you spend money on them - if they reuse the factory harness, then it may not help at all. Don't the factory switches go through a little control module somewhere? That would be my guess if it works on one side and not on the other - a failed relay.

there are no relays on the power mindows that's why there are so many problems with them because the full current goes thru the switch witch starts carbon build up on the connectors inside the switch until they go , and the only way I will get these other switches is if their harness doesn't depend on the factory.

It just seems like without some kind of relay, if the passenger pushed up and the driver pushed down, you could burn up the harness by supplying a path to ground through the other switch. :1

I don't know about that, all I know is that the drivers side switch controls the current going to the pass. side. Check with Icemark for more acurate info, although I send him a pm with this problem and haven't recieved a reply.

I guess that would work - using a DT type switch that disconnected the power wire from the passenger side whenever the driver's side was engaged. :P Sure seems like a waste of engineering when a relay would have worked fine, and saved them the time, money and wire of designing a trick window switch.
Pssh, manufacturers.

I think that if they had relays and an individually powered switch for the pass. side we wouldn't have these many problems with them. but like you said, pssh, manufacturers.

i worked at a service tech for a few years and i will bet ya 9:1 that the wires are broke in the doorjamb area.... check with a multimeter for power to the switch and out of the switch(while opperating the switch)..this will narrow down your search if nothing else...
