power steering: whines and spews fluid when shut off

ok.
when i turn the wheel it whines like a slipping belt almost but not quite
when i shut off the car it spews out from around the filler neck
the fluid is brown and frothy

what do you guys think? is there a way to bleed out all the fluid? is the pump shot? is air getting in somehow? idk

if its whinning there is no fluid or not enough. And if its leaking then you need to fix it. on the filler neck you can re weld where its coming from or possibly use some of the magnum steel putty from the auto store. Im sure there are other things you could do.

Mainly you need to fix the leak and fill it back up

I have this same problem.

looking forward to a response.

Edit. there is a response. In my situation, the fluid spews out the cap when the car is shut off. There is no leak.

I hope this isn't a thread jack. I've been running no PS belt for months now.

have you noticed any decline in the performance of the steering system prior to this?

or did you just start driving one day and BAM whining and boiling?

Ditto.

No decline in performance in mine (when full of fluid) It just spews it all out then the car is shut off.

yup, the alt pulley is the same way.

Between the cap and tube there is supposed to be a o ring.

Is it bent? While that might not cause the problem, it could be related.

have you checked all the fititngs on the rack and the lines running to the rack for leaks? it may have sucked some air up in the system...

notice any puddles of P/S fluid before this problem?

if the pully is wobbling and hte pully wasnt, bent ,or hit or something before, then theres a good chance the pumps internal bearings are shot and its making the whole shaft wobble... the pump might be going out..
