Power steering trouble

My power steering has been dead for a couple weeks now. I have not idea what the problem is. The system has fluid and doesn't seem to be leaking, but it just doesn't work.

The ps computer doesn't beep an error either.

The FSM says to hook up pressure guages at various places, but I can't find anywhere to buy them! Your typical auto parts places only have compression, fuel pressure and vacuum guages, nothing for a power steering system.

How do I diagnose this?

I considered it, but I already have an extra used power rack and pump, free

If nobody can give me a link to a place that sells power steering pressure guages, or a good way to diagnose this, I'm swapping the pump first. I don't want to replace a part with 40k on it for a part with 100k on it unless it's broken.

Well then just remove the pump, lines, etc. Instant manual steering. Its actually better than a manual rack.

Santiago

PS- I have that done on my car.

5) give up the ability to do a tight parking lot AutoX.

I have to agree with OC here, that would destroy my ability to do a tight autoX, and I want to try and run as many as I can next year.

I like the quick ratio of the power rack, but it's just too hard to turn at low speeds.

If you can't use manual steering at 10mph your either gay or 5 years old.

EDIT: Not that gays are weak or anything its just a figure os speach.

Its a pretty lame answer to say:
Well then just remove the pump, lines, etc. Instant manual steering. Its actually better than a manual rack
and
1) search ebay
2) buy manual rack
3) install manual rack
4) go...wait...your done.
and

The right answers would be how to fix the system, not eliminate it. Please do not answer or even contribute if you are going to post crap like that!

They guy asked how to fix the problem, not what is was like to be lame and remove it.

Now, back the problem.

If the system is not working, and you are not getting beeps, either the power steering computer is unplugged or damaged, or it is not getting power (I/E blown fuse).

So first thing that should be done is to check at the power steering computer to see if it is plugged in and if so, if there is voltage on the power wires for it.

Thanks. Will do. I have plenty of electrical equpiment, just nothing hydraulic .

!!!What a lame response. I've been DRIVING the car for weeks this way. I don't LIKE IT. I wasn't giving you crap for suggesting it, but I don't see why you have a problem with me not taking the suggestion.

1. At low speeds, steering effort is significantly increased. This means you have to take your mind off hitting the apex, and focus on just trying to get the damn wheel to turn.
2. I have a gf. There's no way should would drive my car in its current state.
3. It's not a solution. My car already has no power steering because it's not working. I want to do two things:
Step I. Understand the problem.
Step II. Fix the problem.

If I ever decide to modify my system, I'm probably going to try and hunt down an electric PS pump.
