Power Steering Sensor Beeping... why?

My power steering sensor is beeping, and this has not happened before. It sounds like the single beep followed by pause, cuz the beeps are equally spaced. It does not sound like morse code or anything, just a single beep, pause, then beep again. It does this after I've been cruising for a while, and won't do it if I sit at idle for a long time, only starts after I drive somewhere. This tells me it's the problem mentioned in the FAQ:

1-beep, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of speed sensor signal:
In case broken wires or short circuits occur to sensors or harnesses, the buzzer sounds 60-seconds after the engine speed signal of 2200 rpm continues for 18-seconds.
This is exactly what happens. Fluid levels are fine, but I have not checked the pump. Recently I have bypassed the normal circuitry for the horn, which is now wired directly to a switch I put under the dash. This beeping started after that work was completed. In the course of investigating the horn problem, I removed the steering wheel and cleaned up the innards and re-installed it. I am pretty sure I got the plastic deal that does the turn signals aligned properly, cuz I used an eybrow pencil to mark it before I took everything apart, and the turn signals work fine. The wheel itself is also positioned as it was before disassembly. However, I am not positive that it was in the right place before. Am I correct in assuming that the plastic ring thingy can only be properly positioned or completely upside-down? Would this cause the beeping? Or is my car just pissed at me cuz I bypassed the horn circuitry? Nothing I have done would affect the "speed sensor signal", so what the heck is going on?

I think this is your problem, similar thing happened to a mate of mine, he fixed it by simply taking the steering wheel off and re-positioning/cable tieing the sensor in the right spot.
