Power steering help!!!!!

Heya guys,
Yesterday I pulled off all the power steering components, including all the feed, return, and a cooler lines. There was no problem in actually removing the p/s- it just gonna be a bit hard putting it back in one day .

Now I did buy some bolts to block off the feed, return, and a cooler @ the steering rack- But I bought the wrong sizes and the hardware was closed (sound familiar)

Anyway I REALLY needed my car last night (mates 21st) so I deiced to re-use the bolts on the feed, return, and a cooler lines to block off the steering rack holes. I just plugged them up with some lead and it seemed to work.

Before I put the bolts in I turned the steering wheel "lock to lock" about 3 or 4 times. This was to get some excess fluid out of the rack.

I put the bolts in and drove the car. And my lord is it HEAVY. I am by no means a weak person - do boxing and go to the gym.
I don't think it should be this heavy at all.
Maybe I’ve left to much steering fluid in the rack, and it is causing too much pressure build up????

And another thing,

When I was driving last night, one of the feed or return bolt fell/blew off. I did drive quite a few km with the bolt off.
Would I lose even more power steering fluid like this?
I need some in there to lube the internals.

I'm actually thinking of refilling the rack with fluid through the missing blot hole
And then turn the steering wheel again from "lock to lock" as suggested by marcus219.

Yea and I’m going now to get the proper bolts from the hardware -but I don't want to do anything till I hear what other people think about this.

Thanks

Chuch

What would also be very helpful to know is:
how much power steering fluid should i leave in the steering rack. I would like JUST enough in there for lubrication.

(hehehe you guys should have seen my Dad's face when he saw the p/s belt on the groung....next to the pully......and cooling lines. He went white in da face.... then went off at me, telling me that i fuked up my car. Got to prove him wrong, fella's
