Power to starter...sometimes?

87 TII- When i turn the key to start the car i will hear a clicking sound and the starter will not jump. The clicking sounds like a relay somewhere under the hood, not the starter. The starter is brand new, the wires going to the selonoid are tight, so are the battery cables. Any ideas??

I would have to agree with 13b turbo 2 check your battery first. The clicking sound is probably your selonoid starving for power.

i have the same problem and it doesnt lie in the batt or starter. its once again the problem with the fc and there shitty connections grounds and switches first try and bypass the nutral safty switch at the clutch pedal this is half the problem the cars in japan dont have this (so ive been told) and if that doesnt cure the problem then you need re wire the power lead. you can perform a resistance test with an multimeter
my 2 cents

well i dont know anything about shitty connections in fc's but i do know that when i put a new battery in my fc its been starting off the bat. it used to start clicking several times before the engine would actually start up. btw, if fc's are so much of a hassle why is it that you own one again?

Now is this starter actually brand new? Or is it a brand new remanufactured one? I just went through 5 "Brand new" remanufactured ones from pretty much every auto parts place in this god forsaken city. I would definately take the starter out and have it benched even if it is "brand new"

I spent upwards of $500 on misc parts just to find out that my "new" starters kept being bad.
