power door locks

hey everyone. i thought i would start a new thread to get some more attention and some feedback.

well anyways when the key is in the ignition and turned 2 clicks to the right the power locks automatically lock. Is there anyway to disable this from happening?

By the way I am planning to open up my door panel this weekend to fix a loose outside driverside door handle and would like to fix this power lock problem of mine since I will already have the door apart.

Another note, not sure if this matters but I have an alarm with keyless entry. Dont know if this will change things.

Thanks

That is an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry feature and not part of the stock system.

It can probably be programed out of the aftermarket alarm/keyless system if you know what type it is.

That's an anti-carjacking feature of your aftermarket alarm. If you don't have the alarms instructions for reprogramming its features you'll need to call the alarm's manufacturer or distributor.

its a 91 NA... I always thought this was a standard safety feature of fcs... like how some newer cars will automatically lock all doors when you start the car and get on the gas. I guess I am stuck with it unless I can get ahold of the alarm manual from my friend's brother.

This is really annoying because often times I will start the car with it in first gear wait a while and then step out for a smoke... if I forget and the doors lock then yea... sucks to be me. Guess I could roll down the window before I close the door.

Thanks for the replies. Anybody have experience with this kind of problem?

I never considered this to be a problem with the aftermarket alarm in my cavalier... Maybe you should just unlock it before you open it?

There is no factory door lock motor in the drivers door, so it can't be a factory system. The doorlock system on the FC is a follow me system, which requires an aftermarket door lock motor to be installed to operate the drivers door lock.

Jason is correct, you will need to find out what alarm it is and go from there. Do you have a remote control??? if so there will be an FCC number on the back. That number will tell what brand and model it is.

Most of the better systems, won't lock the door if the door is open, you may wish to try putting the key in/on with the door open to defeat the system (unless it is just a crappy basic system).

Yeah.. I was going to say.. because I just added doorlocks to my FC when I put in my DET alarm and if the door is open or opened before they lock then they won't lock even after you shut the door unless you turn the car off and then turn the ignition again.

On a side note.. this was by far my favortie part of the install... seriously

I love them! No more telling people... now you have to lift up the handle before you close the door...

yea I have tried every way I can think of to overcome this. The alarm came with the car and on the remote it says Avital. On the back is the FCC ID# and it says a division of Clifford electronics. I guess this was the neglected department and Clifford. Thanks for the help people. It is a very crappy alarm but an alarm non the less. I plan on getting some DEI system in a bit.

It does sound like an old Clifford. Some of the Avitals used dip switchs inside to control functions like that, but most used programing through the valet switch.

If you can find the brain, call up DEI tech support (they bought Clifford a couple years back) and they might have the old wiring diagrams and programing for the system.
