Thanks man! I will throw some more up soon.
Here's an idea: Instead of normal gauges, how about an LCD display that shows speed, tach and 1 preset normally, then replaces the preset with another gauge when there's a change with some other reading outside of "norm".
So at norm it'd be:
oOo
Boost - Tach - Speed
And when, for instance, fuel gets below 1/4 tank, the boost gauge changes to a fuel gauge in a different color. Or if voltage dips below 13.5v, etc.
The "new" gauge could be displayed either for a preset amount of time or until the user acknowledges it. Also, it could have an on-steering-wheel control system for setup and cycling the gauges.
Would anyone have interest in something like that?

This may sound a bit odd, but I've thought about this quite a bit with respect to video games. With a digital readout, you have to consciously look at the readout, then interpret what it means. There isn't a huge visual difference between 180 and 280.
With analog gauges (traditional needle), you can get an idea of where you are without looking directly at it. The tach on our cars, for example, can be seen in your peripheral vision and without looking at it you can know which third of the gauge you're in. Left 0-3k Top 3-5k Right 5-8k.
Bar graphs also help to give you a good idea of "more or less" measurement.
In regards to changing around guages to bring up issues: I wouldn't change the function of the gauges (boost -> fuel), but I would do warning lights or changing colors.
The Autometer Nexus gauges have a control computer which among other things can do a "Full Gauge Red Alert" where if a user set parameter is reached, the gauge changes to a red color. (Like if your EGT gets over a certain point, the gauge turns red. A/F ratio leans out, Temp gets too high, etc.)

The gauges themselves are $60 ish (as I recall) and the control computer is $200. I think senders are extra. But damn that's cool.
And if you want to get really fancy, have a touch screen display the info. Then of course you'd need some kind of data acquisition computer, and a program to display the info. But when I hit the lotto, that's the first thing on my list of FC mods. (The Skyline R34 has a similar setup.) And the heads up display. Yeah.
id rathe rhave a sweeping motion guage because they are easier to read when your on the fly...
ever seen that CD playerthat measures horsepower made from alpine??? it measure HP, QM times and such...wonder how accurate they are???

The reason I thought changing what gauge to display is because there are three consistently changing displays that give the most relevant info: Speed, Tach, and Boost. The other gauges aren't necessary until something's wrong.

ok ive been looking for a gauge pod for my fc3s but ive only seen the one i want like once and that was a long time ago but i wonder if any of you guys have seen it. it mounts directly on top of the dash over the gauge cluster infront of the driver and has 2 gauge pods off to the left side about where the curve in the dash is.
any ideas where to get it from

glad this got bumped itll give me motivation to start working on my custom cluster
here are mine for now.
i have plans for a completely custom set that will replace all the stock gauges and be replaced with these tinted ones.

I've got three 2 1/16" VDO gauges in the center vent area (don't have pics). It works quite well and is inconspicuos, but isn't too far out of my sight line, it allows you to keep the idiot lights too which is good.
